Michael Reaves

Former Hawkeye player passes away at age 54. Reaves was named starting point guard by Mr. Davis after their 1986 summer trip to China but was injured in preseason and it opened the door for BJ Armstrong.

He was a spot starter in his senior 1988 season and was known as a tenacious defender and sneaky three point shooter (his 3 pt % was actually higher than Armstrong's or Moe's).

Mostly he was known as a dude you didn't mess with. Not even Horton or Kent Hill wanted to cross him. When a Kansas player nailed him with an elbow as he tried to fight around a screen, he chased the Kansas player to the other end of the court before Bill Jones caught up to him and restrained him.

A modern day comp for Reaves would be Anthony Clemmons.

RIP to a tremendously underrated and unsung Hawkeye from the great Tom Davis teams.

I vaguely remember him that was right about the time I started being a Hawk fan as a kid. Such a bad deal...
