Micah Hyde with a funny quote & idea

He does have a point. But my vote is just to go back to playing football like it was in the 90's. No replays, no challenges, no late hits, no hitting to high, no hitting to low, no stupid penalties in which time runs off the clock with out a play, no defenseless receivers, no grounding the ball, no in the grasp rule and no tuck rule. No getting the ball on the 25 after a touchback, no 17 yard field goals, no more fake grass, no more domes and no more weather delays.

Do you see what I see? Americans are getting soft.

Man I miss that type of football... that's real football.

You sound like you have a tiny little wiener and a lift kit on your pickup.

See ya at the Jason Aldean concert, brah.

Why don't you ask Tyler Sash's mom about real football...

Spoken like a man who never played the game.

I get the concept of holding the QB responsible, but I don't know how a ref could enforce it. Perhaps it should be something that is enforced by the team itself. Maybe the WRs can petition the team to fine the QB for putting them in harm's way.

You know Hyde may have unintentionally proposed another idea without even realizing it.

He stated if a WR is going up in the air to catch a ball, Hyde is going to initiate contact the second the WR catches the ball before the WR has 2 feet on the ground. So what if they change the rules so that the defense can not make contact until a WR has made a catch and has 2 feet on the ground?

After each team has had the ball 5 plays, every starting OL could be ejected and every starting DL could be too.

I think they need referees in New York watching every play in slow motion to enforce this rule. /sarcasm

The rule will be unenforceable — consistently and equally. And when it’s called on a bang-bang play at the end of the game .... fans will scream.

I don’t think it could get that ridiculous. But you might be right, too.

Why not make a rule that a receiver must have one foot on the ground to make a reception?

That would be a mess trying to enforce.

When you're running, both feet are off the ground mid-stride. Hitting a guy there is a penalty?

Or, if that was a rule I imagine every 5 yard hook / curl route would have the receiver jump up as the ball got there, so he had time to secure the catch.

Why not do away with helmets?

The reason players lead with their helmets is because they are wearing helmets.

Can you imagine a President of the United States saying, “I love the brutal sport.”

Teddy Roosevelt did. But he thought football had become too brutal. Called in college presidents to create rule changes after:

1904 — 14 deaths 130+ Serious injuries
1905 — 15 deaths 139+ serious injuries

Rules changes followed including no mass formations and the forward pass = modern game.

The modern game is safer.
It is still a violent game.

With all the new rules I'm actually surprised more defenders don't go for the knees. Its a perfectly legal hit and it avoids any chance of a penalty. However, it also dramatically increases the chance of severely injuring the WR. They interviewed a bunch of WR's and they basically all said that they'd rather the defenders hit them high than in the knees...but at the same time I'm not sure what the defenders are supposed to do anymore. When a WR catches a ball over the middle their first reaction is to lower their head....so the defenders a lot of time accidentally make contact with the head and it becomes a penalty.

Hyde makes an interesting point about the "bang-bang" helmet to helmet hits where the defender is unable to adjust his positioning in a tenth of a second. This has always been my biggest problem with the targeting rule as it is written, in that it puts ALL of the responsibility on the defender to avoid such contact. When a defender comes in low, about to make a perfect form, legal tackle, and the receiver lowers themselves to brace for contact and gets hit in the head or upper chest area, the flag is still on the defender. Yet, the only way for the defender to avoid such a situation would just be to avoid making a play altogether. I would like to see intent brought into the discussion, and whether or not the defender was capable of avoiding the dangerous contact if they were not intending it. As it stands, it's a rule that very much favors offensive players.
