This is coming off a tweet that is being shown on TOS.. anybody surprised?
I know this is good news to me.. I am looking forward to this season
next season its going to be real interesting adding the following with just May 6'5 G/F departing.
Jok 6'5 G/F
Uthoff 6'8 F
Meyer 6'10 F/C
this Iowa team will be tall and Athletic

Yep guarding Iowa's offense next year will be a tall order, and this year also.

remember a few years ago when Gatens had to play down low because he was one of the tallest guys we had...yeah, that era is over

If'n I recalls...didn't Lickliter want him to bulk up so he could play the 4 some??? -shudders-

From what I saw in the exhibition, I like Myers game. He didn't hesitate to take a three and it ended up being long but I liked the look of the stroke for a big man.

Not suprised to see him redshirt as the 4 spot is the most crowded of any on the roster.

May the "bulking" up of BB players for the good be put to rest forever. Lick and the Butler way of bulk proved to be a fiasco. Even the Basabe "bulk up" between freshman and sophomore years prove to be a disaster.

BB players sometimes need to gain strength and some players need to gain some good, strong weight... however. the bulk BS of 10 or more pounds in a single year rarely works.

In fairness to the Basabe situation, we were in big trouble coming into last year at F. Had we known White would explode onto the scene we wouldn't have been in such a hurry to make Basabe a 4-5. That was at least mistaken for a necessity. Lickliter, OTOH, did it because, well, it would be cool if Gatens would develop into the streaky-shooting PF that he was desperately looking for?

Either way, the posts in here are spot-on. You can't mold players into what they're not. Yes, by all means bulk up Aaron White and Adam Woodbury; they're our cornerstones down low and have a ton of height left to grow into. However, start putting wing players like Marble in the weight room and you end up working against his skills.

Oh yeah, Meyer---we are absolutely set for years now. Basabe graduates, he steps in as a sophomore, we don't miss a beat. Fran has this thing planned for WAY beyond his probable tourney teams this year and next. He has it set up so we can lose Marble and Basabe and bring back a better team. Gesell-Oglesby-White-Meyer-Woodbury? I don't want to ramble, but I wasn't expecting this news. Now that it's official, I feel stupid for not pleading for it in the first place.

Iremember when people were clamoring for Fran to load up on JUCO's to "WIN NOW" as people put it, looking back this was the right way,, one step at a time..

He was definitely herby. I even remember the thread.

but he was dragon before then. hummm, wonder if he'll be able to set the HN record for alts. we can always look for the commas,,,,,

wonder if he's still looking for a double-double out of Gabe?

Meyer would have gotten essetially zero playing time this season. In the long run this is going to be a vital move as he is big enough to play both the PF/C position, look for him to get stronger first and foremost and then being able to play as hard as he wants in practice this season without worry of injury. He and Utoff can really push people and develop into better players with this year to grow. The logjam at the PF position will work itself out in a couple of seasons and Meyer will be ready to play when his time comes. As deep as Iowa can be this year, they are going to be even moreso next year with the freshman having more experience and adding Meyer/Utoff/Jok into the fold...don't be surprised if Jok redshirts next year and go through a full season of college conditioning.
