I looked at his bio and it would be nice to add another big body

That is such a lazy statement.

Judging McCafferey on how well he was able to recruit top talent to Siena (a tiny private school in upstate New York that 99% of the American populous has never even heard of) is not a fair predictor of how well he'll be able to recruit at a Big Ten school.

I agree. A little bit of me questions why he is 50 years old and has never been a head coach anywhere bigger than Siena. If he is that well thought of, wouldn't he have had a job by now?

Look, we can pick apart or celebrate all the various points on his resume. The fact of the matter is he was probably the most qualified* coach on the market who wanted the job.

*Qualified = Per Gary Barta and the University of Iowa's expectations for a coach's ability to recruit, coach and graduate successful student-athletes. Not the expectations of a vocal minority of fans who post on message boards.

This is my concern. His record at Lehigh and UNCG is nothing to write home about, and it would seem the past 3 years at Siena is his only sustained success in 14 years of head coaching.

I just don't buy that McCaffery was the best candidate who was actually willing to talk with Barta about the job. Maybe the cheapest candidate who was interested.

Judging by your avatar, I assume Scott Drew was your guy.

Please explain to me why in hell he would have considered leaving Baylor for Iowa?

One of the only intelligent things anyone has said today.

You are recruiting to a school. Do you think anyone in the ESPN Top 150 or top 250 for that matter wants to play at Sienna?

They may want to play in the Big 10 though.

Scott Drew's overall record isn't that impressive either 127-113 including 107-102 at Baylor.

Look at Baylor was when Drew took over, and look at where they are now. Playing for a Final Four appearance today.

Nuff said.

I agree with that. I'm just saying that you can't judge a coach solely on his overall record. You have to look at overall records by year and see if there is a progression.
