Max Duggan

Rob - Nice work on all the recruiting articles lately. I don't follow as much as I used, but one player I haven't seen much on, is Max Duggan. I read one article from another news source, that quoted him as possibly committing in the spring. Given he's an Iowa kid, naturally I hope the Hawks have a chance. Given the lack of typical buzzworthy news for a local recruit of this type, I assume he isn't loyal to any particular school in Iowa, or his camp is keeping things tight lipped. Sorry, if I missed something you wrote. Otherwise, I'm curious to know what your feel is on this kid.

Thank you.

He hasn't really tipped his hand. The Notre Dame offer he received last week was a big one, though. He grew up rooting for the Irish, not that it will be the difference.

He's visited here multiple times. He knows the program and the staff.

Based upon everything I have seen, I would estimate our chances at around 10%. I would say 40% Nebraska and 30% PSU at this point. ND and OSU are the wild cards.

The dude will have his pick of the litter. And he won't have a clear path to PT at Iowa right away. I can't say with certainty of this but I like the other young QBs we have too so PT isn't a selling point to try pushing on him. At least as of now. Would be nice to have him but with so many blue bloods in the mix I'd be pleasantly surprised if he ends up a Hawkeye

With our log jam at quarterback, he would never see playing time anyway.
Most kids aren't patient enough to wait till their jr or sr year to start playing anymore so that doesn't work in our favor with him I'm sure. Heck I'm half worried the two kids behind Stanley might not be after this year either.

I'm sure playing time is a factor for some kids, but when you have offers from every top program in the nation, there's going to be top competition at all of them. I don't think he's worried about playing time if he comes to Iowa.

Well that'd clearly be the case if he does. But not all QB situations are created equal. Some of those programs at the end of this upcoming year will have more friendly paths than others. Off the top of my head Nebraska just got their 4 star duel threat kid they ripped away from TN prior to signing day so assuming he's handed the reigns day 1 as a true freshman I could see Duggan shying away from there. As for the others I'm not sure about but we are a long ways away from anything mattering yet unless he's planning to commit early
