Matt Bowen on Tarp

I like reading that about him I just worry about him getting drafted because he has very limited playing time under his belt. Had he played a complete season in 2010 I would have a lot better feeling about his name getting called. But if he impressed well enough he may get a late round nod.

holy crap batman! if he can catch, he should have been a TE or WR with these numbers!

"Measuring in at 6-2, 235, Tarpinian was clocked between 4.48-4.55 in the 40 yard dash and registered times in the pro agility (20-yard shuttle) between 3.85-4.15.

Some other numbers to take note: a 37-inch vertical jump, a broad jump of 10.5 feet and a 3-Cone time between 6.5-6.7 seconds."

Thats a hell of a 40. I have trouble believing he is faster than DJK(4.55), but the broad jump and the vertical are apples to apples and they are impressive. Assuming his bench was mediocre as it was not listed.

"With numbers like these, the Omaha native, and former Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year, should be viewed as a possible special teams standout as a rookie in the NFL."

This is one place I am sure he can shine. Not having him to cover kicks this year was a big difference.

iowa has a good history of lbs who can run like deer, and when those guys are playing iowa's d is tough. when iowa gets in injury trouble like last year, and guys have to play out of position and/or run more like german shepherds, we get into trouble.

If you will recall, Tarp made about every tackle on the kickoffs at the Orange Bowl, and who can forget the hit he put on Stoneham (sp?) from Michigan in 2009?

With that speed, I think he'd be a good fit on special teams. However, with them moving the kickoff up to the 35, there will probably be more touchbacks. Bad rule - it's just a step away from automatically starting at the 20 yard line. They're even pussifying the NFL. But I digress.

I think he will get drafted. Edds is being talked about in South Florida as a game changer and I think Tarp is very similar. Lets hope he leaves the injury bug in college and has a great pro career. I seriously think someone take a shot at him between the 5-7 rounds.

Losing Tarp and Bruce Davis from kick coverage this year was a big loss.

I have more confidence in Tarp making a team than I do of him getting drafted.

Its nice to see Bowen supporting a fellow Hawk brother, but Tarp has not shown the ability to stay healthy to warrant a draft pick. It would be shocking if he could make it through those brutal camps. Hell of an athlete, but sometimes the body just cannot take the pounding.
