March is all that matters

Different refs
Different teams
Same talented roster
(And make a free throw)
You get where I'm going -

Can we at least stop pretending that this is going to happen? This team struggles with free throws. It's not just a funk anymore; they are what they are.

And a defense that will confuse teams (like it confused MSU tonight, even though Izzo had them scouted for weeks).
Yeah yeah right, I've heard this tune before... Toledo in 79, Wichita St in 81, Idaho in 82.... Northwest Louisiana in 06.... 11 first or second round losses since I was a Freshman at Iowa..

This HAWKS played excellent defense no wait....awesome defense tonight. Do you really think they will learn h w to shoot free throws in time for March because if they can't March is not in the cards. First round loss at best.

This "March situation" looks promising, if we get some more cohesive rosters on the floor.
Continue to be amazed how opponents get wide-open 3s and we can't get good looks from 3.

It honestly doesn't matter at this point if we get open looks at 3. Pretty clear that we can't hit them anyway. Watching Iowa trying to run something for Oglesby is just f'n painful.

It no longer matters. In the dance most games are nail-biters. this team is mentally weak, can't shoot FT's, and wilts under pressure. First close game and Iowa will collapse like a cheap card table.

Exactly, this has been a problem all year it is not going to turn around suddenly in March. We are good enough to keep most games close so our exit from the big dance will likely be a result of us not hitting FTs.

I agree that March is what matters... Problem is, it's the regular season that determines where you are in March, and Iowa keeps missing out on big wins that will improve their position for the tournament. If Iowa doesn't start winning more games against the top of the league, it's going to be facing a high seed in the second round, and likely be done. IMO, gotta at least get to the 4-5 seed range if you want at least a 50/50 shot at getting to the Sweet 16.

Sure, the OSU game was nice, and is still is a good win, but let's face it - OSU was severely overrated at that point. That game was fool's gold.

I completely agree with your thread title. March is all that matters although it would be nice for Iowa to win some games to help seeding and stay out of the 7,8,9 lines to avoid the 1 or 2 seed in the round of 32.

However, if you're counting on Iowa to hit FTs, I think you're in for disappointment. As tm pointed out, they are what they are.

If Iowa is going to win big games, they're going to have to play lockdown defense at the end to offset poor FT shooting and overall poor halfcourt offense. Iowa has proven they can play great defense and have proven that they they can't hit big FTs and execute on the offensive end to win games in the final minute.
