-Do you think Nick Niemann will move inside to get more play time with Iowa continuing to use the 4-2-5?
-Would you agree with the statement that Goodson and Sargent aren’t great compliments in the backfield? IMO Both excel in sort of the third down type back role receiving and blitz pickup and Goodson obviously has a little more burst as a true runner. Does that give an opportunity for a guy like Shad Byrd to maybe carve out a role as more of the hammer type runner behind Goodson?

A lot of the team leadership has graduated this year. Who are the leadership guys carrying over from last year? Where are the holes that need someone to step up? Which guys are positioned to assert themselves in leadership roles?
My short list.
Guys that are already there. Brandon Smith and Ihmir Smith-Marsette, I already see as team leaders an I see helping Petras quite a bit.
Tyler Linderbaum now has his first year as a starter. Hopefully he can really take charge on the line. Chauncey Golston is the experienced guy on the defensive line.
Someone needs to step up and be the guy at middle linebacker. Is Nick Niemann the guy? Need a couple of defensive backs to step up.
Of course, we haven't really seen Patras yet at quarterback.
There might be a dark horse or two in this. Guys that really step it up and affect how the team plays.

I didn’t really quite know what style runner Byrd was so that was interesting.
While I don’t think Goodson and Sargent are perfect compliments I do think Sargent is serviceable enough to get carries and Goodson I don’t think should ever be a 20 carry back (20 touches maybe but not 20 carries). To be quite honest I think BF probably favors more of the ability to receive and play out of the shotgun from his backs anyway. IKM kind of a forgotten man but he’s still around for now and has some good speed.
Of the two freshman I’m most intrigued by Leshon Williams. I thought his tape looked very good. Would not be surprised to see him get carries.

I forgot about IKM as well. I could see him looking around if he feels he doesn't have much of a role after going through spring ball.
And, I agree, the RB timeshare will come down to how much they want to use Goodson. IMO, he's the guy you want of the field as much as possible.
