"some city leaders say that additional regulation on gamedays is an idea worth examining."
That quote right there pretty much says it all. The city is just looking to regulate gameday as much as they can
I, for one, can't wait for the Iowa City elections.
With what has transpired to date on the tailgating scene, I would think that with the student population as well as many, many citizens that there will be some incumbents looking @ very tight races.
When I saw the headline on this I was excited but after reading it carefully it does seem the ICCC may be covering their butts this year and probably going after all vendors next year. Do they even think when they say their should be a discussion on looking at all the vendors? If the election is not till 2011 I hope IC residents have long memories. Killing the tailgating atmosphere is not in the best interest of IC financially.

Maybe I've missed something, but I don't really see these new tailgating rules affecting the students very much. The territory rules apply specifically to campus-owned locations, and most of the other rules apply to drivers leaving the area. If I was still a student at Iowa I'd probably just do what I did back then; drink a bunch before the game and then come back to my house afterward and drink some more for the night games. I don't think I ever left Kinnick to go continue to drink outside for another couple hours, especially on University property. Not saying that the tailgating issue won't play a part in the next elections, I just don't see how these new rules negatively impact those living in IC.
Pushing the vendor permits and Magic Bus permit denial to next year (election year) will definitely be headline news again.
I personally know one food vendor in the vicinity of the magic bus location that is strongly considering throwing in the towel because of all the vendor permit b.s.; in other words, I know for a fact that the other vendors aren't too happy with the Rugby Club right now.
With that said, I too remember the good old days of sitting in the south wood stands, with 12 cans of beer in my baggy pants, leaving at half time, coming back...Now a lot of the time, I don't even know if I would want to leave at half time even if I could. The games seem to be that much better & mean that much more.
Why are they mad at the Rugby Club? Because the Rugby Club wants to be treated the same as everyone else? Maybe the vendors should get angry at the City Council who are the ones trying to start enforcing all of these rules out of the blue. Maybe that would be more helpful than getting angry at the Rugby Club just because they don't want the Rubgy Club raising hell because it brings the attention on them.
