Lute In The News

Arizona has placed its basketball program on probation for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons for violations by former coach Lute Olson related to an off-season AAU tournament in 2008. The program will relinquish one scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year and cut the number of days coaches are allowed to recruit for the next two seasons. The NCAA may modify the self-imposed sanctions.

Lute = Calipari? Time for Iowa fans to wake up and realize that most successful programs and coaches push the envelope in recruiting. Now, this crossed the line and cost Az.,but I would guess that Cat fans will not disavow Lute.

I would gladly give up a scholarship to have a top 10 bb program every year. What did he do?

Thanks for the link. I guess I dont really see the big deal. But rules are rules and lute broke them.

I'm not quite getting what exactly is at issue, either. I do know that the NCAA for many years has been cracking down on the camps and tournaments held on college campuses, especially those involving higher level "club" teams that could be used, or misused, as the case may be, for recruiting.

Years ago I attended and participated in camps where a number of D1 programs were represented. It's a murky world, to be sure.

In contrast....Lick has given up scholly's for the last 3 years and the Hawks have become a bottom 10 program.

When Bill Self was at Illinois he got in a little hot water for calling on boosters to contribute to an AAU club that Shaun Livingston was playing..Ft Soukee.
Of course, Livingston committed to Duke, then went right to the pros instead of college.
