Love this statement from Marble

Really good attitude by Devyn, Hubbards gone and time to move on. That's all there is to it. I think Devyn and Aaron White will surprise people this year. I don't see this situation affecting the team other than making them even more focused and determined.

That is a great read from Dochterman....I think Roy is as proud dad with the 'better than me' comments.

I don't think that will be the case...then again, if Devyn does have that drive and determination, then he will have a chance to make a career at the game.

He'll need 3-pt shooting to come along next offseason.

Devyn, 19 years old, will really have to step up his game, he and Cartwright are probably the 2 players who can put the ball on the floor and create shots for themselves and teammates, White is a nice prospect but will need his 1st yr to develop. May is great in transition, good rebounder, tough defender, below average 3 pt shooter, but a role player who struggles in the half court game, dribbling and passing, Gatens will have a great season if Cartwright and Marble can consistently put the ball on the floor and get to the paint, I think Josh O will struggle his first year but develop into a really nice player, similar to Marble,

Losing Hubbard, 27 yr old physically mature bb player, really hurts the teams talent level but could inspire the team to surprise us this season, this team gets no respect, I hope the players use this as motivation.

I am a bit surprised that Fran does not have Roy D shooting from beyond the arc this summer, but I guess he just feels that he needs to perfect one aspect of his offensive game before adding the deep shot. I thought he came to Iowa with an established 3 pt shooting game, but last year it was clear that he struggled from the arc. I like his mid-range game, and his ability to score with funky moves in the lane, with both hands. I was watching the Iowa-Michigan game replay yesterday and down the stretch,in the last 50 seconds in regulation, down three, Roy went into the lane, drew a foul and scored with his left hand on an up and under...made the FT to tie the game...yes, he has Roy,Sr.'s blood in his veins...a good thing.

Devyn is going to find himself with more shot attempts off the dribble and creating than spotting up. Not many there's come off the dribble and 'creating' it save for end of clock situations and those are low percentage.

Becoming real good in the aspect of your game where u will get the most opportunities is a wise move.

I know this is pessimistic, but I really don't think we are going to be very good next year. Marble really needs to improve a lot for us to be better. I hope I'm very wrong, however, and would be happy to be served a healthy plate of crow.

We don't need massive improvement from Marble to be better next year. We need massive improvement from Brommer+better than expected contribution from either Olesani or Archie. If we can't get 30+minutes a game of servicable center position Basabe will be in foul trouble all the time.

I do not think the play of Marble is rate limiting step here. If Gatens and Marble shot better it would be a bonus but if we can't get some contribution out of the center position like we got from Cole it won't matter.

CBB is dominated by guard play. If we can't shoot they aren't going to guard us out there. Basabe will be fine but he can't do it alone out there. Those guards needs to knock down some jumpers so the defense actually has to extend. Even then, I'm not sure Brommer or Archie are good enough to score consistently (I know Archie isn't).

You guys act like Cole was an all world center. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed his career and he's a great hawk, but he only averaged 8pts 6reb in about 25 min a game last year.

To put that in perspective combined Brommer and Archie averaged 5pts and 5rebs in about 20 min a game last year. That's not a very big drop off.

Provided Brommer can stay out of foul trouble and play 20+ min per game I don't think we are going to see a significant drop off from the center position.

Which is why our guards need to be better. Can they/will they?

They are all a year older, it's hard to imagine they will get any worse.
Agreed, and not just a year older but have played in Fran's system for a year longer, and possibly the best part played a year together with 1 key player leaving via graduation not transfer.(I dont count Cully cause he only played in like 5 games at the beginning of the season)

Long term injury to Cartwright and it's season over. Not getting PG depth will haunt us, mark my words. Cully was no world beater, but I would feel better if he were on the roster. Much like Iowa football with RB's, we have chronic PG issues. I don't know if Andre Murphy burned his bridge as a walk on or if we can dig up some late qualifier, but we need a true backup PG for this year and next.

Agree that injury to Cartwright and we are done no matter what happens at center.

I think everybody is underestimating how good and consistent Cole was down the stretch. 8 points and 6 rebounds is what he did for the whole year but the last 10 games when we played well he was much closer to 12 and 8 with solid defense. Brommer showed flashes but never has done it even close to consistently. If he can't Basabe will have even more problems with fouls.
