Losing Gayle Sayers - how times have changed in recruiting

We lost out on Gayle Sayers when idiot Jerry Burns didn't have time to meet with him on Sayers' campus visit.

Now we have to stop coaches from twittering recruits or calling during a dead period. Oh, and also covering up their misdeeds while on the roster.

Not sure of the exacts but the story I've always heard is about the same. Quite a shame in deed. I've always heard Gayle was a Iowa's to lose but it didn't work out and he went to KS. Go figure. Imagine what could've been.

True story! Gale Sayers told the story himself on Kieth and Andy's radio show a while back. He really wanted to be a Hawk.

Yes, we get the painfully underperforming joke. Without Hayden Fry Iowa probably IS another Kansas. The irony is that Evy made his time as coach look that much better by being a failure as an AD. One of those failures was putting his faith in a guy whose definition of leadership was NOT meeting with Sayers. I realize some people felt Burns proved himself later compiling a record of 55-46 as the Vikings HC, but it was deja vu for JB as he followed another legend and by comparison was unimpressive IMO.
