He must like a challenge.
Here is the late November 'list' of potential PSU targets that intrepid student reporter Ben Jones put together in late November and early December.
Tom Bradley Interim PSU: Doubtful they were going to promote from within
Kevin Sumlin of Houston: Went to Texas A&M
Dan Mullen of Mississippi State: Denied any interest, quickly
Tony Dungy: Laughable
Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern: Laughable
Tim Murphy of Harvard
Mark Richt of Georgia: Huh?
Chris Peterson of Boise State: Getting over 2mil/yr at Boise now
Charlie Strong of Louisville
K.C. Keeler of Delaware
Darren Perry of the Packers
Mike Munchak of the Titans: Some overtures, no dice, former PSU guy
Jim Caldwell of the Colts
Stanford HC David Shaw: Laughable
Steve Sarkisian of Washington: Laughable
Not sure how long it's going to take some in Happy Valley to realize the damage that has been done.
He's staying with the Pats through the playoffs. I would think he might want to get his staff together and get out and recruit.
You have to figure that Tom Bradley was at least as good of a candidate as this guy is. The fact that Tom Bradley never even was in the running shows that the current staff is out of football until the Sandusky trial is over. It would be a huge liability to have anyone from that campus be your equipment manager.
Penn State is in full melt down mode. Rittenberg retweed Arrington saying he was taking down all of his Penn State stuff before OBrien was announced.
Fowler finally had to say that the school was having trouble marketing the job.
There is still a B1G investigation to go.
Penn State hasn't gotten an NCAA penalty, but they may as well have gotten the death penalty. A coach who isn't exciting anyone, who won't step foot on campus until after signing day. It's not a good time to be at that school.
I would wager that their enrollment goes down also.
