Looking for something jazzy to do in the Quad Cities

The lady friend and I might skip town a day early for a game and were going to stay in the Quad Cities. Now I understand that the Quad Cities may not be Fort Dodge but there has to be something fun to do. We would get in thurs evening and so we would have all day friday.

Too bad ghost isnt still around. I think he plays Chinese Checkers with the mayor of D-port every thursday.

I grew up in Davenport. I left. Nice place to go back to.

There are casinos and minor league baseball, every dry cleaners, ice cream shop, tire store or anything else, is now a tavern. The Mississippi river is an attraction for those who haven't seen it. In Moline people enjoy the John Deere museum. The East Village has some nice little shops and taverns. The Irish tavern that I used to frequent, next door to my parish, is now a place where, to be accepted, you need to wear black t-shirt, have tattoos and never smile.

The JD Pavilion downtown Moline is nice and one block away is the Riverhaus which usually has some great bands outside on Friday and Saturday nights. The District in Rock Island is always hopping on Friday and Saturday nights. Three casinos in the area (Jumer's is Rock Island is the largest and land based (also smoke free), but Davenport and Bettendorf also have boats downtown). Downtown Moline also has several nice upscale restaurants ( the new Barley & Rye is exceptional, Bass Street Chop House, Johnny's) and some great bars (Bent River, Barrel House, Bier Stube). If you are in to golf and have time on Friday play TPC Deere Run or Glynn's Creek.

I would go to Modern Woodmen Park for a River Bandits game thursday or friday evening. Voted best minor league ballpark in the nation. Not sure how the weather will be thursday.

Otherwise, I'm sure there's some live music. Will have to check (which means this part of my post is a total waste).

Harris Pizza! And, yes, bars/taverns/casinos. But I've been gone for 20 years.

Hey, NC, I grew up in D-port also. What year did you graduate HS and which one did you go to?

West 78 - A lot of people love Harris. I never thought it was all that great - its ok but some people rave over it.

I looked at Modern Woodmen Park that looks great but Ill be there for the ball state game so it looks like they will be done. Unless they made the playoffs and they havent added that to the calander.

Any Breweries?

Four that I can think of but could be more ... Front Street Brewery in Davenport, Great River Brewery in Davenport, Blue Cat Brewery in Rock Island and Bent River Brewery has a location in Moline and Rock Island. Also the distillery in LeClaire is unique but they can't serve more than samples due to the laws ... good tour though.

Fortunately I grew up on the Illinois side of the river, glamorous East Moline. Look. If you want the best pizza goto Frank's Pizza in downtown Silvis. Not the yuppie one in Bettendorf. They last remodeled when JFK was in office, but that in itself makes it worth the trip. Otherwise Happy Joe's sauerkraut and Canadian bacon pizza. Don't forget to get some whitey's ice cream.

Good advice here. I'd say Great River or Front Street as the top choices.

I live in Dport now for work. I can't get over how much the locals like Harris or Happy Joes. Both are terrible.
