Look for the offense to open up on Saturday...

Wide receivers will be targeted early and often. Throwing 15 yard+ passes, and throwing downfield. Probably a jet sweep. Maybe a flea-flicker. Might even go no-huddle.

The dogs are starting to nip at Kirk's heels, and he will do what he can to keep them at bay. He will trot out a more open offense Saturday to try to silence the critics...to show he knows best...to prove Jake deserves to be the starter.....just like he did to start the Indiana game.

Then next week it will be back to the same old-same old.

Not a chance.

What would be nice to see.......for once a well executed screen pass. It's been at least three years, maybe longer (Adam Robinson) since we've executed one that doesn't look like complete crap.

We've tried a few times this year and they've all looked so poorly executed it appears to be something we practiced once.

I'll look for Santa to land his sleigh at midfield. I wonder which one has the better chance of happening?

I wonder who will be calling the plays. Yes, I am serious. I have some suspicions, and I hope I'm right. No emirical evidence, just a hunch. Change and hope are coming baby.

What is your suspicion? I honestly would like to know.

Maybe it's because Bullock is the only RB catching passes out of the backfield that nothing works?

Even if KF tells GD to just let it rip, Jake will audible to a run for a 1 yard gain (or loss).

Ignore the previous detracters; you've made a prediction based on your astute observation of a very real trend. Whether successful or not remains to be seen but I would bank on it being attempted. Even more astutely reasoned, not because it would be the best football strategy, but because it would be very consistent with der KirkFer's recent style of grabbing at any straw, short of a QB change, that might spark the offense into that comfortable 10 point lead.

Congratulations on taking steps up the ladder of accurately assessing Iowa football under Kirk Davus. I warn you, it is painful and lonely up at this level; your hopes for Iowa football are constantly misinterpreted and your intents misrepresented as being "a hater". However, it does come with an unobstructed view of reality, which is an awesome "perk" -- if you're into "death by a 1000 cuts" and witnessing a relentless, excruciatingly slow degradation of Iowa footall.

Getting pretty thin at RB this week — just read Canzeri is "Iffy." May need to toss the rock out of need.

That written, with the transfer, injury, suspension and now nicked back, it is more believable that a circle the wagons mentality is starting to settle in Fort Kirk. Weisman may get 40 carries, which would be a mistake (and I am one who LOVES watching him beat up on LBs).

Expect one heck of a meltdown, one of epic and biblical proportions, on HN Saturday afternoon.

This is a HUGE game this week. We will find out just what this team is made of. Will they have an "us against the world" mindset, or just go through the motions? It is going to be a very interesting game, and I can't wait until Saturday. I'll be in Kinnick as usual....I hope the Hawks can win!

You know, OP, I've noticed what you noticed as well.. When heat starts coming, the offense puts on a product that's exciting, and then as you said, the next week it's back to business as usual. What I don't understand is how people don't take this as a personal "eff you I run this team the way I want" from the captain himself.

You dont have to have coaching experience or to have played football (which I've done both) to see the difference in the team when CJB is on the field, yet.. Here we are, back to not seeing him play.

I have a feeling anyone lights up the Indiana defense the day we played them.
