Or see play some more? Petras and Mansell, at least a few drives, I hope so. More Toren Young straight ahead.

The Paulsen Twins?? Notice I have mentioned all offensive players. It couldnt hurt.

How about some older style Fry 5-2-4 defense putting a lbkr outside the TE against offensive 6 man lines to hold the edge better? We had trouble holding the edge yesterday and getting penetration.

Amani Jones 2.0 at MLB??? Gersonde? Nixon

A lot more AJ Eppy and Fant??
 
I just want this season to end. I don’t care about seeing players because it’s still this terrible system.

I just really really really really hope we don’t lose to Nebraska but I have no confidence we won’t.
 
Anybody but Hockaday at MLB. If we’re not playing Fant and B Smith, might as well put in Mansell because the only way we’ll move the ball is off schedule and QB running. Although maybe our division II WRs might match up with Illinois and Nebraska.

This is something I haven’t seen much on here. Jones got benched (justifiably) after a half of a quarter or the 1st game. Hockaday has been bad since coming back from injury but no changes there.
 
We are no longer in contention for the NC.
We are no longer in contention for the B10.
We re no longer in contention for the B10 West.
What is the downside to playing the backups and others who have seen little action thus far?
Lose out on the Foster Farms bowl?
 
There is no reason not to get mansell and Petras multiple drives. But Kirk doesn’t want a controversy, so it won’t happen

It’s been all down hill since Welch left the game against PSU, up 12-0.

I think Petras has played in one game so it would be possible to play him in all remaining games and still not burn his redshirt I think.

I agree. It doesn’t really matter who the players are or how much experience they have, or who is actually the OC or DC calling plays, KF is the one constant. The offense is always a mess and the D since Norm left can’t get stops when they need to.

Plus Iowa doesn’t recruit well. There isn’t a lot of young talent here to get excited about.

Hate to say it, but I agree.
At this point, let them all play.
It's like being down 50 to 0 in the 4th, let everyone play.
Let's see the back ups, get them some experience.
The starters can't complain, because had they gotten it done, we wouldn't be to this point.
Have a lotto drawing and let a fan call a quarter of plays.

Sorry I'm usually pretty chill. I could see how "a few plays and we are undefeated". Well that works for a game or two, then you accept the fact and the fact is we are just not very good and we really haven't been all year.

Close. I think the tipping point was Stanley missing Hocks on the gimme that would have put us up 21-7.

And where has that play been since then? CJ and Kittle scored on it at least twice in 2015, against Illinois and Purdue.

Other than the execution, the design was beautiful. So was the play action fake.

I think this kind of sums up the entire offense this season.

Right now, we are all emotionally worked up and calling for heads to roll, but, all-in-all, I've been pleased with most of the schematic changes instituted by BF. The execution all season has been horrible. The rub, though, is that it's not only Brian's job to construct the offense, it's also his job (along with the assistants) to make sure that the players execute it. So, that begs the question, is the poor execution bad coaching or bad recruiting, or both?

KOK is supposed to be the QB guru. Can anyone reasonably make the argument that he has done a good job this season? The offensive line looks better than early on, but still struggle mightily at times under Polasek. I like Copeland, but our WRs continue to struggle to gain separation and use proper leverage. And, on and on.

And, none of that includes the overall pysche of the team. Where's the mental toughness, the resolve, the competitiveness? Again, how much is the coaches and how much is it the players?

I pulled this part out of your post specifically because it's 100% correct. Replacing LB's is something we've actually done a pretty decent job of in recent years; aside from early struggles things tend to turn out ok for us. Things feel a little different this year. We've been spoiled a little bit, with Jewell, James Morris, Pat Angerer, back all the way to Abdul Hodge...we've had a good run of MLB's. Jones seems to have all the athletic talent in the world but if you summon up that talent in the wrong spot, we get gashed. I don't know if Hockaday is or isn't as gifted as Jones is, but he frequently seems to be in the wrong spot too. I mentioned this a couple weeks ago, but Hockaday had a couple high profile WTF's in the Penn State game, with some inexplicable reads and aggression on both QB rushing TD's. In the Purdue game, which I admittedly only watched a little bit of, there was one play early in the game where he way overplayed a fake, gave up a massive hole with the lack of gap integrity and failed to correct himself until the QB was several yards into the defensive backfield. Hockaday is definitely a paradox and it makes me wonder what changed with Jones from spring when he was the next great Iowa MLB to now when he can't get on the field. We've seen some of his mental errors, but as our current LB group has continued to make their own errors he still hasn't seen much of the field.

Yeah, you really have to ask "Did you practice that? How many times? How many times did it work?" If you're calling plays in games that didn't work in practice, then you're just an idiot. If they worked in practice, maybe the practices need to be changed. Are they adequately simulating game situations?

The next time a coach or player says something about "didn't execute", I reeeeeeally wish someone would say "That's been a common theme this year. What's being done to correct this?"
