Lol...Zambrano gets ejected, tells Cubs he might retire

Good take your ball and go home. Save the Cubs some money and spare us from listening to any more of your BS

+1. I'm sure the Cubs can find someone who can produce an ERA of nearly 5, be a better teammate and cost the franchise far less money.

That said, I'll believe this is more than just BS when he actually officially retires. For now, I'm assuming this retirement stuff is just a temper tantrum following yet another horrible start.

GM Hendry says he accepts Zambrano's decision to retire. Saves the Cubs 37.5 million and will never happen. Z will be back tomorrow, hat in hand, declaring he has learned his lesson and will be a good boy from now on.

Z isn't retiring, but he will never pitch for the cubs again. Sounds like the players in the clubhouse are tired of him and think he's a cancer (duh). He's done with the cubs. They may be able to trade him, but I think they'll pay most if not all of hi salary. If not he should just be released. I'd rather see the cubs pay his salary next year and put Coleman in the lineup that see him in a Cubs uniform ever again.

He got put on the disqualified list. No pay and no team activities for 30 days. I guess you get to save that money, eh?

The Cubs should never sign another pitcher to a BIG deal again. For example, ever since Z and Dumpster got their money they've turned into mediocre pitchers at best. I guess that the Lilly deal worked out pretty well, but then they shipped him off :(. Screw Z, I've never liked the guy and like somebody stated earlier- He's a cancer to a team, just a complete head case moron. PLEASE retire and stay true to your word.

It only took his agent 2 hours after the Friday night game to contact the Cubs to tell them that Zambrano was not retiring. Of course, his agent is looking at his percentage of MILLIONS still owed to him over the next two years.

I tried to defend Zambrano earlier this year, when he said that the team was playing like a bunch of AAA players.....because that is how they have played all year long. My beef now is that he left his teammates, who were trying to battle back in a game where he gave up 8 runs. He quit on his teammates and he needs to go. And hopefully, the Cubs will be able to dump his HUGE contract.

Totally agree. The fact that no Cub left the dugout when some of the Braves players came out of the dugout after Z hit Chipper said it all.

The cubs spent money on pitchers, which you have to do, the problem is none of them were #1 guys. Z, Dempster are all guys suited for 3 or 4 in the rotations, not 1.

Now, can they dump his contract, I doubt it. Listening to Pena and Soriano, they don't want him back, the team doesn't want him back. He's not going to pitch again for the cubs. period. How they get rid of the contract, I don't know. I assume they will pay most of it (trade or release), but I imagine Z will be picked up by somebody (he's a good teammate (I guess) when the team wins) but it'll be for CHEAP and the cubs will gladly (silva esque) pay his contract if he's with someone else.

The MLBPA filing a grievance saying the punishment doled out by the Cubs - 30 days no pay, no contact with the team - is too harsh it hilarious.

Big Z shouldn't be paid out any more of his contract.

This. We need serious #1 pitching. Which won't likely be available until after the 2012 season in free agency, when C.C. Sabathia, Cole Hamels, Zach Greinke, and Jered Weaver come on the market, and possibly James Shields, Dan Haren, and Tim Hudson (all have club options that will likely be picked up, except for Hudson, as he'll be pretty old by then). C.C. Sabathia has a player option for the 2012 season, but I doubt that he's leaving the Yanks.

Careful about calling him a cancer. I did the same thing at the beginning of this season and got blasted for it. I still can't see how someone can defend him.

I was with you, but I honestly never thought it was this bad. As far as who they could get, I don't know who it will be but at least more contracts will come off the books at the end of the 2012 season. Hope for a big bat this year and big arm next year.

Also, I really am interested to see how the farm system develops. I'm not sold on anyone right now except for Jackson. Hoping the new signees can actually turn into something.

I think I read somewhere that this was the cubs best draft (in 5 or 6 years) and they weren't just signing role players, but actual impact players. I laugh that the last 5 years they were just drafting role players with their top picks (Colvin, Jackson, Barney etc)

High hopes for the cubs.....in a few years

Actually most of the comments I have heard from Z's Cub teammates have been very positive about him. It's these little "lapses" in his sanity that they are tired of dealing with on a regular basis. I have been a big fan of Zambrano's over the years, but I seriously doubt he will ever pitch for the Cubs again unless it would mean eating his entire remaining contract. The Ricketts have not impressed me as owners who are willing to take financial hits.
