Lockett or Oriakhi?

Which player would add more to the Hawkeye team next year? Both could start, and probably would. But which player would be more valuable? Not which player is necessarily better, but who would take Iowa to the next level...?

We are very close to the next level. Very close. I think if we add more to the back court's experience, then we would be a team to reckon with. That said, I think Clemmons, Gesell & Ingram are going to be darn good additions next year.

A one and done player would be perfect for the Hawkeyes

Lockett. He would give the Hawks another shooter/scorer which the Hawks could use next season, imo. Neither will happen tho.

Neither. Better options are available. Plus Lockett played for the WORST team in the WORST BCS conference in history. It doesn't matter anyway since neither are coming.

just because ASU was bad in a conference that had 9 out of 12 teams with 19 or more wins and 7 teams with 21 or more wins, yeah i can tell how they were really bad, sounds like East Coast bias in full bloom to me.
as to better options, who are they?

Those were Gazette's Scott Doctherman's words. He knows a little something about Iowa and college basketball. He also said wouldn't get to caught up on Lockett's numbers because of the team he had. Would he be nice help, sure but not like he's going to be the "final piece to the puzzle" player either.

I agree that we will get neither, but that wasn't the question so I would prefer Lockett.

neither is Oriahki a final piece to the Iowa Puzzle, and the point of the question was who would people like. not if Iowa will get either

The counter to that is that you could have said the same thing about Matt Gatens the last couple of years--that he played on a terrible, terrible team--and he turned out alright. (Unfortunately, I'm not sure I agree with my own argument.)

THIS! just because he played on a bad team does not make him a bad player,
he was the 2nd leading scorer at 13 ppg behind the leader at 13.7. not much difference and would require the attention of the other teams top defenders. shows he is not a slouch. hmm take a 6'4 wing guard that did this;
13 ppg fg %49.8 3 ps % 41.2 fts % 71.1
5.8 rpg
2.2 apg
.5 bpg
1.5 spg
32.6 mpg
or a
6'9 f/c
6.7 ppg fg %49.5 ft %56.9 3 pts 0%
4.8 rpg
.4 apg
1.3 bpg
.1 spg
21.5 mpg
rather simple really give me the 6'4 wing player anyday

I think Iowa State fans are happy with what is coming back plus the eligible transfers. Probably another NCAA Tournament season ;)

What was the point of this response? It had absolutely nothing to do with the thread, or with what I posted. Did I say ISU fans weren't happy? Did I say they wouldn't make the NCAA tournament next season? I don't get why you felt the need to post except to be a *****. Congrats on being better than Iowa in basketball currently. Are you that desperate for our acknowledgment of your basketball program?

I think this is an easy question actually.

The answer is simply Oriahki why: It would allow Meyer and Olaseni to redshirt.
Iowa has a logjam of underclassmen post players and getting a ready to play big man would take Woodbury out of the starting lineup and let him be comfortable as a backup for a year.
Iowa has enough players in the backcourt to survive this seasona and I think it would benefit the program more long term if Fran were to go and get two 6-4 to 6-8 wing type players in the 2013 class.
Guards typically are more ready to play than big men and Iowa needs all their guards available. Unless Marble can't take the next step and become an all-conference performer then it would be Lockett.
Oriahki is a guy that does run the floor, is tough and can score when the opportunity is there. He also challenges a lot of shots and knows how to block out. Iowa needs toughness down low and Alex would fit the bill.
