In all seriousness, not a huge blow, but I would still have liked to keep him.
Seemed like he was passed up by Hockaday as the heir apparent to Jewell at MLB, but Garbutt seemed like a heck of an athlete for a LB. Hopefully he finds another school and shines.
Don't think this will move the needle a whole lot... Which is a good thing. Would rather have had him around. He seemed to have some potential. But unless there's some attrition at that position he wasn't going to do much beyond special teams
Interesting nugget from QCT, Garbutt was one of 4 players from Texas in the 2015 recruiting class and none of them are still on the team (Jerminic Smith was another).
Not too surprising. He wasn't going to start over Jewell, didn't seem to be working out as OLB, and didn't seem like he was going to be moving ahead of Hockaday or Amani Jones for the next group of LBs starting next year. If he didn't want to stick around for his time, more power to him for moving on to somewhere he might get to play.
3 LBers who are seniors. Future opportunity's seem to be a possibility for anyone not currently a starter. I bet there is more to this story than anyone in this thread knows.
