There is no doubt that Iowa has developed NFL Linemen. Some of those were over rated (with a knock on fundamentals), but by and large Iowa has produced it's share or more.
Why do KF teams struggle so much when injuries occur to the line? Is it that it takes so long to develop rough diamonds? Is it because, like with QBs, when the starter goes down the replacement has very little experience (more than most teams?) in games and practices?
For being Lineman University, Iowa has over the years had very bad line play at times. I highly doubt that many P5 teams have been dominated on the line by an FCS team like that in history.
No doubt KF has built some level of stability. By how does a stable program have this happen and how does a stable solid program get shredded so bad at times (speaking now of Rose Bowl and Tax Slayer Bowl). One just doesn't see that kind of shredding happen that often.
I do think the lack of speed at WR and RB (loss of much use of Wadley) explains part of it, but not all of it.
