Lickliter/Pearl

For everyone that wanted to get Bruce Pearl instead of Lickliter here is a question. Would you prefer to have Pearl now with his problems being at Iowa or would you rather e right were we are after the Lickliter years and upcoming Fran years

I wanted Pearl badly. (as a coach;)) Now I wouldn't want him anywhere near our program. Lost all respect for him. FM is definitely the right man for the job.
Pearl will get in the TV business and i think he will be good at it.

People are seriously over reacting the whole Pearl situation. He didn't kill anyone, pay a player or whatever. His problems are not major infractions in the college BB world but they are infractions. What hurt Bruce was not being honest to the people at his university, they had his back for a bit until he cried and then went out and talked to a young recruit which is an infraction but not major. These prblems stem from 2008, so why is the NCAA just getting around to it? They have a big hard on for Bruce and they finally had a chance to teach him who is really in charge.

If people think what Bruce did was so bad why hasn't the NCAA taken Auburn's National title away for them paying Newton's Dad or why did the NCAA allow the 5 tOSU players to play in their bowl game? It's all about the money! Why does Tressell ahve his job yet, because his AD is sticking by his side and not selling out. Bruce should ahve kept his job and the school should ahve accepted the penalties no matter how bad and let Bruce coach through it. Who in their right mind is going to take that job not knowing until June what kind of penalties the NCAA is going to hand down. Tennessee and the SEC were actually trying to teach Bruce by suspending him for 8 conference games but that just wasn't enough. They could have cut a couple schollies for two years, cut his off campus recruiting and post season play but they pushed to get him fired.

I would have taken Pearl a year ago, even knowing what I do now. I'm happy with Fran; think he'll get it done.

I wanted Pearl last year and I still think he's a good coach. He lied to Tenn and thats nothing to be so torn over. Would I take him over Lick? Everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. He can recruit, no question, and he can coach well. Tennessee was very good many years under him, and he is more of a household name than Lick was even after winning COTY.

If Todd Lickliter's name had never been spoken in Iowa I would be content. Would have loved Pearl in '07 or a year ago (many probably remember that I was the lead cheerleader for Steve Forbes too), but I am very pleased with McCaffrey and company.

If Iowa had lured Pearl to Iowa instead of hiring lick, I predict that he would have never gotten in trouble with the NCAA. He knows the culture at Iowa is not SEC-like,as in Tennessee. I think he felt tremendous pressure to cut corners at Tenn. to compete with the snakes at Memphis(Cal) and Ky.(Cal)...along with the other SEC cheaters. When in Rome....at Iowa,Bruce would not have been such a risk-taker,and would have toed the line...imo.
But, we will never know now,and Iowa went with the biggest mistake in program history instead, and now,Fran has the thankless task of digging out from the Lick-rubble. I have a lot of faith in Fran, but it is not gonna be easy at all.

I would have taken him when Lick got hired, I would have taken him last year, and if Fran doesnt pan out I'd still take him. He lied, yes that is quite an infraction but what he did was have recruits at a BBQ and he recruited when he wasnt suppose to(you could consider this hard work). If he didnt lie he probably would still have a job and probably will learn his lesson.

While I agree with this take for the most part, didn't Pearl have the same recruting violation (inviting a recruit to his house) while at UWM? Sure, he may not have lied when asked about it then, and maybe he felt more pressure at Tennessee, but he made the same mistake. I think that is interesting.
