LeVar Woods Puts All of His Energy into Hawkeye Special Teams

Interesting that Woods keeps moving around as an Iowa assistant coach. Is he trying to get a broad level of experience? Or is he struggling to find something he is good at.

The first year he was a TE coach, I thought the TE's got worse and thought Woods should have been fired along with Davis, Kennedy and White.

Then last year the TE's had a great year, at least in terms of TD catches. So I figure maybe Woods is not so bad. So of course TE's then were taken away from Woods.

I guess I just don't know enough about the inner workings of the coaching staff to understand some of these moves. I hope for Woods sake, that special teams gets better. So much depends on finding a decent punter though. Woods comments suggest to me they don't like either punter. I wonder if they are pushing hard to find another grad transfer punter that can help out Iowa.

While I felt some parts of the special teams game we excelled at (place kicking, Kickoffs & coverage etc) we really struggled in the punting and punt return game. Hopefully having a full time special teams coach can improve that while maintaining the high level of play in the other areas.

I thought I seen somewhere that those we did return weren't to bad. Can't be letting them roll though!!
Punting needs work.
We didn't give up to many big returns.
All in all besides punting, I didn't think it was awful or anything.
It will be fun to see how special teams progress now. Nothing juices up a team or the crowd like a score on a punt or kickoff.
