Just think, over that time period Iowa has 3 close wins over ISU (2 of which were extremely tight) and 2 very close bowl wins. The ISU game which always sets the tone for the season and the bowl game which leaves the taste in your mouth for the offseason have thankfully gone Iowa's way. Had some or all of those 5 gone differently, oh boy, shit would not be happy in IC right now.

But you’ll hear guys here say how non-cons are just as important as conference games, and how beating horrid ISU teams compensates for losing to Penn State and Wisconsin perennially.

Because non-con wins add to perception and AP ranking, and AP ranking is most important to recruits (which is a garbage take).

I am frustrated as anyone, BUT first we only play THREE non-conf games. Second ISU has been a SOLID P5 team last 3 years with Campbell. Many huge victories and many near-misses. PLEASE STOP PRETENDING ISU SUX AND THAT VICTORY IS MEANINGLESS. PLEASE.

you are correct on the non conference schedule, however if any power 5 program has to thump their chest that Iowa State is your marquee victory year after year, something is very messed up......it starts with KF and ends with BF.
