let me be clear...I love the Hawkeyes....

but it has been very hard to invest so much energy into the Hawks this year. Maybe I need to get perspective and not care quite so much but I am embarrassed to say that I almost would rather get beat convincingly than have to watch week in and week out us come down to the wire having this sick feeling we are going to lose. I guess this is the exact opposite of last year when we were winning these games.

I don't consider myself a dilusional fan, if anything I begin each game thinking we have to play well to win. I am very happy with 10 win seasons and don't yet believe we are an elite team.

My frustration is THAT we lose, it's how and to whom. I don't care about the "curse" of NW. What I do care about it me sitting there with my wife with a 10 point lead and the ball at midfield and having an awful feeling, its not fun and it gets old. Again, maybe this is more on me than my team. Basically they break my heart a little to often. It doesn't help that I live in Omaha, NE and have to deal with you know what.

I am not going to blame the coaches (although I question things at times), Stanzi (love the guy no matter what but really wonder on his decision making at times), the D (I know the philosophy works in the big picture but so hard to stomach at times like this).

Basically, It HASN'T beeen a great time to be a Hawkeye in many of these games this year!

I just don't see us beating OSU and honestly I don't think MN is an absolute after the last two weeks. I don't expect Titles every year (although I would like to see one before I die and I am only 34, which isn't a given).

My brother said something that I think is true, we Hawkeye fans have become a little entitled and it has raised the bar as to what we expect (much like the Husker fans, which sicken me). All the pieces where there this year and at times this team performs like a top 10, maybe top 5 team. The problem is they perform like a average to below average team just enough to keep us in the "Good, but not great catagory".

It just hurts so much and honestly, it's not healthy. Again, maybe it just my issue.

Sorry for the long post, need to vent.

Damn.

Good post.. I feel the exact same way. I love the Hawks, win or lose, but losing games like this that were OURS for the taking is getting pretty painful. Again, last year I got to enjoy the opposite end of it with a our come-from-behind wins, but we have typically been pretty lousy in close games during the KF era. We either win big, or lose heartbreakers. It just feels like we have the ability to really BE an elite team.. but we just keep coming up short, letting a game or two get away from us, or one awful half of football does us in.. 2-3 loss seasons that really could have been undefeated or 1 loss.

I will always be a fan! It hurts and I feel the same as you watching the games this year. I do like our program..its solidly top 1/2 B10 program. BUT I don' see this staff ever seriously challenging. They will continue to back door into maybe a tie for the B10 but this staff doesn't have what it takes.. to go out a TAKE a B10 championship

hey, I agree other teams want to win just as bad. But a top 20 team with a 10 point lead and the ball should get it done almost every time.

Can't argue with this.

I don't buy into the whole "this team or that team owns this team or that team", but all I heard everywhere is NW is our "cryptonite" "nemesis" etc. This is why you play the game. Again, it's not the loss... it's a combination of what the expectations and how we have lost all three games, even how we won last week. The pain, it's in the bone!!!! its in the bone !!!!

Getting a little sick of the Stanzi, Clayborn, Ferentz, Defense....etc criticism. Almost Every facet of this team is to blame today. It's the pain of losing a game we should have owned that is causing the blame game. It all comes down to expectations, and the reason we have these high expectations is, in very large part, to Stanzi, Clayborn, Ferentz, and the Defense. Dark, dark days for Hawkeyes fans this year...and it's all due to unmet expectations....

Iowa hasn't lost by more than 7 points since 2007 - these close loses are getting VERY hard to stomach

This is true. A few weeks back WHO13 reported how Ferentz was the worst in all the BCS conferences in games decided by 7 or less since 2004. We have just seen why today.

Great post ! Strangely it makes me feel a little better and a little worse all at the same time. Competitive in every game but makes you wonder....what if. Of course, we won our share of last second games last year too. Actually a stat I didn't realize....

Great post. The funny yet sick thing about games like the past two weeks is that most of us knew it was going to happen. In both games, Iowa didn't come ready to play. I don't know if it's coaching, lack of effort, or if it's mental toughness. After last week you would think this team would be mentally prepared. They just weren't. It just doesn't make sense why they wouldn't be.

Bottom line is this team just doesn't get prepared for "weaker" teams. I think it boils down to the mental aspect. Something needs to change. After next weekend and a Hawkeye victory, we are going to be thinking to ourselves: "what could have been.." Like we thought last year. I'm tired of that feeling....
