My 2011 Honda CRV that I bought new still runs great and only has 107,000 miles on it. I have enjoyed driving my wife's 2023 Mazda CX-5 when she lets me. I really enjoy all the safety features on it which comes in handy for us older guys. My sister in law drives a 2023 GMC Denali pickup truck that they bought new. It has all those bells and whistles also. She asked my if I have thought about getting a pickup truck and I said "sort of". She asked why I was hesitant. I told her I don't care for the low gas mileage that comes with a pick up truck. She then tells me her GMC has a 3.0 diesel engine and gets an average of 25 mpg in city and 35 mpg on the highway. Huh???? It's really nice on the inside and very comfortable to ride in. It has all the safety features also. I did test drive the same truck one day but it was the top of the line "Ultimate" with an added feature. The salesman had me hit the "Super Cruise" button while we were cruising down I-80. He told me get up 75 and let go of the steering wheel. SAY WHAT?????? After some prompting I finally decided to give it a very brief try. WHOA!!!!
Talk about lane assist PLUS! The truck was able to check for approaching traffic from behind and once clear the truck would change lanes, pass slower traffic and re-enter back into the right lane. It was so cool. The Mazda CX-5's don't do that YET. I am looking at every possible vehicle out there now regardless of make or model.
Anyway I found this nice article about assistants that Kirk has at his disposal which really is impressive. I hate to see us lose a really good one because he waits too long to retire. I guess the one's that are in charge of the line play in some ways are our version of running LANE ASSIST.
