Lack of Respect from MInny?

Please, tell me one place in that article where you could even carve out the slightest sliver of lack of respect?

This might be the worst topic I have seen on HN in my 5 years of reading, and there have been some bad ones.

Nothing in that article that can't be supported by stats, although I don't think I'd say Iowa and Minnesota's defenses are 'roughly equal'

I would not call that article a lack of respect towards Iowa. I cannot blame them for feeling they have a shot with Iowa coming to town. The big edge Iowa has over them, as pointed out, is the QB and wide outs.

Iowa needs to go up there remembering how painful last years loss was. This is a huge game for Iowa as they need that 6th win to become bowl eligible.

Ghost, there was no reason to slam the OP like that. While I do not agree with the lack of respect he still posted an interesting article.

Minne does have the one thing that seems to give IOWA problems, a mobile QB. Of course he's a lousy passer and lacks confidence, but he can still run.

There's also that "X" factor. Not unlike ISU, Minnesota has a special bone for IOWA and really wants to beat us when we come to town. Bad as they are...desperate teams can be dangerous. And if emotion can keep them hot for 60 minutes...we've seen how "emotionless" Ferentz's teams can be sometimes. (see the 2010 game)

I'll be there and I'm taking nothing for granted this weekend.

This is another game that Iowa needs to put away early or suffer the consequences. If Minny hangs around they have a chance. And given Iowa's defensive problems, they may be able to hang around.

How much respect do we deserve as the 33rd ranked team in America?

They just played Nebraska, a team that most would say is currently better than Iowa. They aren't going to be overly-impressed with our game film, nor should they be.

If our defense plays like it did vs. Indiana, we'll have to put up 38+ to win. I mean, Indiana easily could have scored 34 and they're terrible.

I respect the star-trib for even coming up with an article on the gophers. That can't be an easy task. Unfortunately, they have now shot the "we ain't givin up, we can still win" bullet. What is left for next week?

First of all, Minnesota is worse than Indiana, and two, Indiana scored 17 points against Iowa's first string defense. Easily could have scored 34 might be a stretch. Sometimes teams don't score touchdowns when they get in the redzone, in fact, that is kind of what Iowa does. Keep teams out of the endzone after they get inside the 20. Indiana is no different.

If we can lose up there last year with the personnel we had we can certainly lose up there this year. We have yet to win on the road with Vandy at the helm. He needs to get the first W under his belt on the road to build another level of confidence as does the team for that matter.

Looking at the Gophers remaining schedule I can see where they would try to ratchet it up a few notches as this could be there best chance for a win on their remaining schedule. They do have NW remaining but that is a road game.

To say that the Ds are roughly equal is still rather laughable. We're talking about an Iowa D that is about tops in the conference in red zone D ... and Minny is near the bottom in red zone D.

It's also worth mentioning that the Hawk D is arguably even more dinged up than the Minny D ... AND the group is playing their worst ball in years ... and yet Minny's D is still giving up a tad more than 20 more yards per game.

Agreed! I have season tickets for the Gophers so I can watch the Hawkeyes play every other year, last years game was downright painful and embarassing, I hope the Hawkeyes don't come in flat or overconfident, the Gophers will upset someone I just hope it isnt the Hawks.

Ghost I meant the post as a question and proviide an article on the Hawkeyes, personally I didnt think it was a lack of respect, sorry I ruined your morning

No reason why Iowa should overlook Minnesota.

All the team needs to do is look at what happened last year up there.

Iowa needs its first road win. Otherwise, it could be a long rest of the season.

That said, I fully expect Iowa to come home with a win.

Our defense is easily as bad. We have no d-line other than Daniels at times. Binns is good for a play or two a game and disappears the rest. Our linebackers and secondary often are the first ones to touch the ball carrier. If we had a terrible offense like the Gophers, we would lose every game just as easily.

Our defense:
* Gave currently benched Steele Jantz the best game of his career
* Gave Tino Sunseri the best game of his season
* Gave Shontrelle Johnson his only 100 yd peformance
* Allowed NU to convert 16-22 3rd downs
* Gave up +100 yards to Dontey Gay
* Gave up 231 yards rushing to PSU on over 5 ypc
* Actually made Tre Roberson look good
