KOK to interview at UCONN?

You guys scoff at KoK but you do realize he comes with an unwaivering endorsement from one of the most respected people in all of college football right? That carries an awful lot of weight, I'm guessing maybe a smidge more than the collective internet consciousness. Plus I have it on good athourity KOK was the first person on staff at Iowa to get a smart phone.

KOK recruits a very important area for the Hawks, lets just remember that, and it is right in UCONN's backyard. If he does go there I think the NE recruiting for Iowa takes a hit (a little one anyway). Be wary of what you wish for.

We will not lose ANY recruit to UCONN.

My endorsement was not unwavering (nor unwaivering)

I consider KOK an excellent OC, who operates under some constraints imposed by his boss.

Not saying UCONN takes them, but they could go to another school, like PSU, Pitt, OSU, Maryland etc. KOK has a great connection with Dematha (Coker's school) and I don't really want to lose that. Not saying KOK pulls them to UCONN, but he won't be helping Iowa anymore.

This may have been asked/addressed already so sorry if I am repeating but I am wondering if we lose current recruits/commits if KOK leaves for UCONN. Thoughts?

marcus grant has tweeted that he would be very disappointed if KOK took the UCONN job, but that he would not necessarily decommit

May not hurt us, as I think the relationship's been made. DeMatha's coach is on record and multiple videos stating he LOVES Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa program.

KOrK is doing this strictly as an attempt to leverage a raise out of GarBar/KF. He knows what OCs at other big-time schools make, and he wants to be a player too. It's a carefully-constructed bluff; he doesn't really want to leave the IC womb.

KOK and his recruiting are about as good as his offensive play calling. His biggest recruit was Diauntae Morrow - the only 4 star player he was credited with landing. If you look at his recruiting commits they are almost exclusively defensive commits which is odd because KOK is an offensive coordinator. In fact, Trey Stross, DJK, Arvell Nelson, Ricki Stanzi, William Lowe, Anthony Schiavone & Will Tye are the only offensive players that he's credit with recruiting. I would like to think that there are others but I'm relying on rivals recruiting data base for my information.

UCONN fans, don't take my post as anything but huge support for KOK. He is one hell of a guy and probably the best offensive mind in college football. Good luck in getting him, he will be missed.

It would make little sense for O'Keefe not to listen if a school like Indiana or UConn was interested in him. Why pass up guaranteed millions and the opportunity to run your own program again?

From an Iowa perspective, I think more Hawkeye fans should be concerned about losing O'Keefe. Stability is a positive for any program, and if O'Keefe leaves he is likely to take some staff with him. While it seems the staff is loyal to Ferentz, you could hardly blame assistants for leaving if it meant the chance to be an offensive or defensive coordinator under O'Keefe. And only one current staff member would be able to replace O'Keefe. It is likely a couple others would feel passed over and more willing to leave at that point.

I'd rather have Ferentz and his assistants spend the next couple months working full-time on recruiting, preparing for spring practice and reviewing personnel and schemes - not interviewing candidates to fill three openings on the staff.

I know most successful programs deal with losing assistants, but I think Iowa slowly deteriorated under Fry as Alvarez, Snyder and McCarney departed.

It is in Iowa's best interest to keep O'Keefe.

He has recruited more than that. I know he led the efforts for Orloff and Grant this year.

These are some comments Orloff has about KOK:

Ken O’Keefe led Iowa’s recruitment on Orloff and Grant.

“I actually like him a lot,” Orloff said. “He was straight up with me. He told me through the whole process how it was going to be and when I might expect an offer. I called him to tell him I was coming, but he wasn’t there. I talked with coach (Eric) Johnson and then I got in touch with Coach O’Keefe.”
