Klug's Arms Too Short? Iowa NFL Draft Predictions

I seem to recall people saying the same thing about Bulaga....that he had T-Rex dinosaur arms/claws. He seems to be doing alright. You just never know.

I'll be surprised if Reisner doesn't get drafted. You would think just the reputation Iowa has with TE's would get him drafted in a late round. Plus I think he's a pretty good blocking TE, not great at receiving but not bad either.

Yes, that was the big knock last year on Bulaga. And Clayborn's arms....or at least one of them, have been called into question as well.

I guess I'm surprised Klug is being projected by some as going undrafted. I'm no expert, so I won't disagree, but if I'da had to guess, I would have guessed that he'd be drafted.

He's a tweener......Doesn't have the explosion to play the end spot and too small to play inside.

I think Ballard has the most productive NFL career of all Iowa's guys going to the NFL this season.
I think he's a good fit as a 3-4 DE.

Clayborn will go first, but Ballard probably has the more productive career.

I assume you mean DT. Don't 3-4's use a NG and 2 DT's and 4 line backers? He's definately a hand in the ground kind of guy.

He's obviously not quite that talented but his body type reminds me of Reggie White. White was listed at 6-5 300 and Ballad is 6-5 297. I think he's got a bright bright future ahead of him.

If this is true, it could actually HELP Klug's draft status! Teams will undoubtedly like that he can't easily reach his junk to send any "inappropriate" pics via text...I'm thinking "welcome to the Vikings, Karl!"...

3-4 personnel is generally called a NG then two DE with two ILB and two OLB. 3-4 DE's are larger and have to have strong gap control and hold the line. Not as much pass rush responsibilities as a 4-3 DE because the OLB's are often larger and do a lot of speed rushing like Jerome Harrison or Clay Mathews.

I actually think Clayborne would be a good 3-4 DE. I think Ballard could play 4-3 DT where he is responsible for shooting gaps or RDE in a 4-3. He has enough athleticism to speed rush if get technique down. Ballard would have a shot as 3-4 DE too, but I'm not sure he is stout enough in gap control.

Gallery was the one that ended up not having the reach he needed to play Tackle. Then when Bulaga came out they made the comment that Gallery didn't have the reach so a lot would be made of Bulaga's but he ended up having the reach they want for a RT. Klug probably doesn't get drafted but I hope he does. Reach was a major concern with Gallery and he did struggle at Tackle because of it. But he seems to have found his place at Guard. It seems superficial but the scouts know what usually is needed.

Ballard could play DE in a 3-4, or DT or DE in a 4-3. His versatility is what imo makes him the better pro than Clayborn. Hence the reason I posed the question a while back. Can't wait to see who drafts him if it is in the 2nd round it is a steal.

Gallerys struggles at tackle had nothing to do with his arms. He just didn't have the feet to handle the more athletic DE's in the NFL.

Short arms in the trenches sounds weird/nit-picky. But it really does make a difference. Gallery's biggest knock coming out was how short his arms were, and he's moved to guard.

Short arms makes it easier for your opponent to get up on you. The longer your arms, the more leverage you get when keeping your man at arm's length.

What I read from Rittenberg, said that Klug had actually looked pretty good at the practices (he was reporting a scout's assessment). Said he's not prototypical at either end or tackle, but he helps to make up for that with his motor and very active hands (keeping the OL from really getting a hold of him). That sounds pretty good, but that was pretty much the same assessment for Mitch King, too.

Not saying his arms are to blame, but Bulaga hasn't had the season worthy of his draft spot.

Dude you must be on crack. He's had some struggles against some of the elite DE's but he's had some games in which he's been absolutely dominant as well. The Packers are quite happy with him.
