Kirk on Fox pregame:"I like short passes that have long runs."

Bobby Stoops interviewing him and they talked about all the great linemen and tight ends. Kirk trying to be tongue in cheek while showing Dallas Clark catch a 4 yard pass against Purdue in 2002 and then run it 90+ yards for the TD. Typical Kirk with the dry humor. But he doesn't mention the many deep throws to TEnds over the years up the seams, the wheel type route to Ducey iirc at OSU, multiple deep sideline and crossing routes to TEnds like Fant and Moeacki. And he is not wrong if you have guys like CJ Jones, Brodell, DJK, McNutt who can turn a simple out pattern to a broken tackle and a huge run after catch.

Yeah, that's the beauty of football - so many ways to skin the cat.

Knute Rockne said it maybe close to 100 years ago now, "blocking and tackling...." Wise words and an important reminder of the importance of the most basics of fundamentals but, as another saying goes, "the devil's in the details". True in life, true in football.

That 95 yard Dallas Clark play might be the most exciting single play in my Hawkeye lifetime. If it's not #1, it's up there. Just in terms of pure excitement, that entire '02 Purdue game has to be one of the wildest in Iowa history. If that game had been scripted as the climactic scene of a college football movie, I think you'd probably say, "a lot of fun, but a bit far fetched".

Great memories of a great game. Iirc Jovon Johnson had two blocked kick returns, maybe one for a TD. And Banks made a big 3rd down run/scramble in the 4th qtr. Purdue was really good and that might have been just after Drew Brees was there.
