I will once again post a running thread on Kirk's comments from this week's presser, that will begin between 12:30 and 12:35 today. Please forgive some of the typos as I don't have time to correct them...and please do not post in this thread until you see FINISHED in the post headline. I think its teams execution...done things in practice encouraging and that will show up.

What difference between 20's and RZ

Field is tighter down there...thati sa big part of football. Just came up short on Saturday. if you can't master that and have sucess you wont have a successful team,

Thoughts on OL progress?

It's hard to say yes or no..they did a better job against the run, they had a better run defense than NIU. Our protection improved. Not perfect. Overall it was better. Like entire team, need to improve. SOme positives in there. Big part of that and entire offense is consistency. If you have eight or nine guys doing something and two break downs, bad play or no gain.

Focus on offense struggles, seems like defense coming along quicker

I thought on the field Saturday, and felt after watching tape, felt like we played better in second half. We grew defensively. Had more confidnece and more decisive in play and played faster as result...encouraging...play Morris made in endzone was huge. If they score there serious trouble..not only stopped score but gave us a chance to do something with it. Now we have to take advantage of opportunities...didn't do it twice in 4th on Satruday.

UNI QB freshman, surprised compsure he showed v Wisconsin

I dont know about surprised, but very impressed. First year starter, that was his first game...we've been to Madison, tough place to go. First year player to do what he did in second half says a lot about him. Diff QB than they had last year. Nice job of playing to their strengths. good thrower, adequate runner better thrower than runner. Gave them a chance to win.

More of the latter...we are young, guys get feel for game and things slow down mentally for them. that is encouraging. Making progress not out of the woods. If you give up 9 points normally enough to win.

We have a lot of guys invested and he is at the top, always has. He expects a lot from himself and he is a team guy, too much so at times. If i have a worry about him its too much pressure on himself. that is how he is built...so respected because of that. Tough mentally and physically. Nobody is happy wiwth production. Just keep working and he has to do his part and not try to do too much

Too much pressure affect play?

Yes. that is a danger. Let game come to you. Spring of 87, had three guys competing. McQuire, hartlieb and Poholsky...see them forcing throws and doing too much...coming out of that spring, batting order Hartlieb was 3rd and ended up winning the job. Big part of playing any position, play wiwthin framework of what you are asked to do.

Is that hard to do when things dont work

yes. Its natural. Not most experienced group and experienced guys feel like they have to do more. they do, but if you push too hard, sometimes...you can't squeeze a golf club too hard

Why FCS having success vs FBS

I am not aware of those scores, two games all we have to look at is 09 UNI. We were fiortunate to win that game. We knew that coming off field. And Wisconsin ball game this year. That went to the wire and they have been in two straight rose bowls. Reality of football now. No surprise as UNI has had history of playing well anywhere. Our guys may not understand that werent here in 2009 but they need to

We havent talked about it yet, will this afternoon. First day of focusing on opponent as team. We will not ignore that. Lot of guys on team that 2009 is ancient history to some of our players. That Wisconsin film will get their attention.

If playing FCS, UNI or someone else?

We had a choice. I am fine with it, but I knew that when we scheduled it it wojld be a tough game. that is what they have been for a long time. Esp last 12 years. If I cojld have gotten out of it after 2009 game, but no choice then

We have done that with several guys..recruiting is hart to predict and if something happens you have prioroty list. Tanner, we made that call and he was receptive. He was under recruited. You can say that about some UNI guys too. They have had some great players..who was ahead of Kurt Warner? One of those things where it was the next call

I haven't read papers lately, but that woujld be possible. It will make things more competitive
