Kinnick Renovation: Phase II

With this expansion of the conference I think its about time to expand or renovate the north endzone. Kinnick needs to be 75k+ :D Any takers?

With the Big 12 most likey collapsing and Iowa State joining a non-bcs conference, Iowa could more than likely become more popular in the state of iowa. I think this wouldn't happen immediately of course but once kids grow up with only one BCS team to root for, more Hawk fans will be created in turn a bigger stadium will be needed. I don't see this happening for at least 15 years though.

Up yours! There is nothing wrong with the North End Zone. We "North Endzoners" like it just the way it is!

You want more seats? Start by filling in those corners in the south endzone.

I am in favor of redoing the North endzone. But I wouldn't do it like the South. I would take it more verticle and tier it with a small club section. I would close that end competely so that opposing teams felt like they were in a coffin down there. I would also consider playing over time in that end. The South Endzone is bad for overtime because the sound escapes and half the students leave before the end if the game.

Kinnick is fine for the time being. Let's get the Carver work finished and the BB program pulled out of the crapper, and then worry about Kinnick.

I could see skyboxes on top of the East Stands. Kinda like Camp Randall did a few years ago. I realize this is a ways down the road but I still think someday it will happen.

That would never happen, there is really no room on that side with hawkins drive and the uofi hospital right across the street.

Look again. There is room along the top of the East Stands. These things aren't huge ballrooms you know. I am not sayin this is going to be soon but I think it happens

IMO, the only thing that would constitute adding more seats is if the Hawks become a perennial power and the high demand for season tickets continued.

Before they started the most recent renovation, Iowa did a structure analysis of the east stands. And guess what, it was determined that no more weight could be brought to bear on the original 1929 (or so) supports. So it would be my guess no seats or extra boxes or weight will ever be added to the east stands.

Kinnick expansion will be solely obtained through filling in the gaps of the endzones.

Thanks...I had not heard that. I wonder what the difference is between the East and West stands? Weren't they built at the same time? Just askin

There wouldn't be enough room to built the supports needed to add a structure on top of the east stands. On the West side they had the room and took out quite a bit of the parking lot to support the new Pressbox.

As far as the North endzone goes I don't know if there is enough room there either, it's basically a sidewalk between the street and the stadium. But I am sure they could figure out a way to do if they wanted. Which at this point is nothing more then a pipe dream. :)

Oops, didn't see hoffahawk's post, what he said. Even the supports for the old press box were pretty hefty.
