King's Mom Weighs In on Upcoming NFL Decision

Great article and they have their prioities straight.

I dont know how much it costs to take out insurance policy against career ending injuries or how those policies read but some players just love the college game. Some want to play that fourth year and maybe these insurance companies take some kind of deferred payments out of the payout if they are injured or get paid when the player goes pro.

Either way, it's been a blast watching him the last few years. Regardless of what everyone else thinks is best for him I hope he does what he feels is best for him. If he's back fantastic, if he leaves can't blame him, but appreciate all he's done for the program and wish him success in the future.

I didn't realize he was graduating this spring. He's as good as gone in my opinion. The insurance won't save a thing. Those policies don't payout unless the injury is career ending.

Damn Jon can't you do a better job of vetting the Iowa State Fans? What is this Afghanistan???

Lol, just kidding as I am afraid CHF you are probably right, but secretly I am hoping he returns along with Drew as we would have to be favored to win the west again next year and give the playoff anothe shot.

King had all the metrics freshman year, it was obvious. He was one of those guys that get another star if the "right" school would have offered him. Doesn't seem that long ago. Will go down as the best CB to ever play at Iowa...

It's nice to see a young man doing what he loves and getting his degree, what ever he decides to do after this season he's earned our best wishes.Hope to see you back but understand if you aren't.

Didn't realize that Desmond was set to graduate in April. I'll be surprised if he doesn't go pro.

This young man is quite a success story. Great to be a Hawkeye!

How is that possible for King to graduate in April. He did not redshirt and he was starting by his first game as a freshman. How could he possibly find the time to graduate in 3 years? That does not sound right.

Nice article though. I did not know much about King or his family. I definitely did not know that his brother was murdered when King was in High School. That's rough. Some guys would use that as an excuse not to try. He came out of a tough situation.

I am thrilled he chose to come to Iowa. Love to watch him play and no matter what he chooses he has earned it. Would love to see him back next year but if not I'll wish him the best and he did a fantastic job! Proud of you Desmond!

If a player is slated to be a first or second round draft pick the university athletic department will typically take out a Lloyds insurance policy against losses in the event the student athlete is injured during their final season.

Could have transferred in some credits from HS and/or could have taken some classes during the summers.

Did he enroll early? Would help him get ahead as well. Just some thoughts, but I don't know the answers, just throwing out some ways students graduate in 3 years.

I remember as a freshman he got burned a lot for the first four or five games then he just started getting better and better.
Kind of reminds me of Jewel. A sophomore, yet he is playing at a much higher level. He's competing with the big boys.

GBB. What a great article. If I see Ms Powell at the parade or game with a big 'ol Desmond King button, I'm gonna shake her hand.

Online courses, Kirkwood, Guided Independent study(correspondence courses), 3 week, 6 week, 8 week summer session classes......I don't know what King's major is or what is accepted toward graduation and what isn't, but you can pile up credit hours pretty quickly.
