Kickoff Times

Hey all, I have read the boards here and the 2 TOS's for a long time and finally deicded to sign up and start posting.

Just wondered what everyone's opinion on what time kickoff will be for each home game this season. I'll take a stab at it:

September 5- Eastern Illinois- 11 AM, can't see any way that this gets to the 2:30 or later slot.

September 12- ISU- Im gonna guess that this will be a 2:30 kick. That was the case in Ames in 2005 and with both teams coming off bowl victories it could draw a bit of attention outside of the state.

September 25- Ball State- 11 AM, same as the EIU game.

October 2nd- Penn State- No way that this game gets stuck at 11. Either ABC/ESPN will claim it for their 230 slot or maybe the BTN will snatch it up for their 6 PM slot. I will guess 2:30 on ABC.

October 23rd- Wisconsin- I actually think this has more of a chance to be a 7 PM ABC game than Penn St. because those games are decided in the spring and Wisconsin is getting more offseason love than PSU. I think it would be a great atmosphere with Bucky coming in for a Primetime kickoff.

October 30th- Michigan State- If the season goes as all Hawk fans hope, this could be a 230 game as we could in the midst of a very special season and the national networks would want to scoop us up. Michigan State always seems to get hyped then dissappoint. I will guess 2:30 on ESPN/ESPN2

November 20th- Ohio State- This is a no brainer. Since by conference rule this can't be a night game, this will be a 2:30 kick. Afternoon kick, senior day, possible conference title on the line and maybe more against the Buckeyes. Could it get any better?

What are everyone elses thoughts?

Here's my take, similar to yours.

Eastern Illinois is definitely headed for an 11am kickoff on BTN.

For Iowa State weekend, Michigan and Penn State are on the road and the rest of the Big Ten slate is very weak except for Miami @ Ohio State. But I expect that will be a 7pm ABC or ESPN primetime game. Therefore leaving Iowa-Iowa St as the next best game and getting the 2:30 ABC telecast.

Ball St, likely 11am on BTN.

I think Penn State will be a night game. With the great games these two teams have played and Penn St and Iowa being a pretty good TV draw, I would expect ESPN, ABC or BTN to pick this one up. Would love to see a 6 pm BTN game.

Wisconsin, has a good chance for 11am ESPN or 2:30 ABC. I will say 2:30, the only game ABC could take instead is Purdue @ Ohio State.

Michigan St will probably be an 11am game.

Ohio State is a no brainer 2:30 game, unless one of these two teams really messes up and this game no longer has Big Ten title implications.

As for road games, I'm hoping that the game @ Arizona is a late game. I would expect FSN to carry it for either a 6pm Iowa start or 9pm Iowa start.

I think PSU & Wisky games will be night..Michigan will be 2:30 ABC..

OSU will be 2:30...Mich would have been night if they would allow night games (their first night game will be ND at home in 2011)

I'll take a stab at this one.

Eastern Illinois - It's a nobody that nobody cares about. Games like these have 11:00 am written all over it.

Iowa State - Yes it's a rivalry, yes, it's two teams that made bowls last year, but I'm pretty sure both universities have some unwritten law that this game needs to be an 11:00 am start just to curtail the drunkeness from pre-game tailgating. I would love a 2:30 or even a night start but I highly doubt that will happen.

Arizona - Night game. Two reasons: 1) The average high temp in Tucson in mid September is still around 90 degrees during the day. 2) Unlike how we didn't take advantage of the time difference by starting at 2:30 instead of 11:00 they will, a 7:00 pm start over there is equal to 9:00 pm here.

Ball St - Another game that has 11:00 written all over it.

PSU - This is where things start to get interesting. I'm assuming Iowa is going to host at least one night game again this year. And with OSU coming in November and the Big 10 having a rule about no night kickoffs in November the obvious choices are PSU, Wisky, and MSU (based upon notariety). I will say this, it will be at least a 2:30 start. Probably will be the night game.

Michigan - Depends on how they do this year. If they are halfway decent, I can see a 2:30 kick. I see they are having a night kickoff this year for the first time so I doubt they will do two in one season. If they are stinking up the joint this one will be an 11:00 am kick.

Wiscy - Has another chance to be the possible night kick but I still think PSU gets the nod so this should be a 2:30. It may slip to the 11:00 as it seems Kinnick has to have it's fair share of 11:00 am starts.

MSU - Probably 2:30. With the way that game went last year there may be a little hype for it. I would say there is a chance for this as the night but again PSU probably takes it.

Indy - 11:00 am. Did anybody really think otherwise?

NW - There is a possiblility of this moving to the 2:30 slot. The media loves backstories and Iowa has not had much success against them in the last few years. Probably will be an 11:00 am kick though.

tOSU - This has 2:30 written all over it. Iowa probably won't be undefeated coming into this game but I think there is a chance this is for the Big 10 or at least a share of it. No way this kicks early.

Minny - Depends on what the ramifacations of winning this game are. If we control our destiny and it's for the Rose or the Big 10 title, it could be at 2:30. If somebody else controls their destiny, this will be an 11:00 kick so the 2:30 teams know the results.
