Kickoff Issues Still Lingering

According to the play-by-play for the game, we had four kickoffs:

Kicked to the 18 yard line - returned 23 yards to the 41
OSU result: 18 yard FG

Kicked to the 9 yard line - returned 14 yards to the 23
OSU result: TD

Kicked out of bounds - OSU starts on the 40
OSU result: Punt

Kicked to the 6 yard line - returned 33 yards to the 39
OSU result: 48 yard FG

Three of our four kickoffs saw OSU starting on at least the 39 yard line. I'm no football guru, but I know that isn't good. Not to mention lost field position.

The OSU 9 yard line was the deepest any of our kickoffs went. One kickoff only to the 18 before it was returned. Brutal.

I also can't help but notice that on our last kickoff, OSU started on the 39 and ended up with a 48 yard FG. Maybe a better kickoff would have resulted in an OSU punt instead of a FG, which got them to within four, and set up their next possession for the go-ahead TD.

Special teams have been killing us all year..

Meyer has been more inconsistent as the season has gone on...could be:
1. Tired leg- long season and maybe his leg has lost some zip.
2. Ball does not carry as well as temps go down.
3. Doing both FG and KO might mess with mechanics?
4. Wind has been a factor the last three weeks.

I do not think the coverage has been that bad,but I do think the line-drive kicks and short kicks give the returners too much of a head start.

Meyer is a frosh,so I will allow for improvement the next 3 years, but it needs to be evaluated overall.

5. Special Teams coaches are stuck running the defense and have zero time to dedicate to improving the special teams.

we we get kicked off to, I hope that they kick it into the endzone so we can atleast start at the 20. When we kick off I live in mortal fear that the other team will take it out to the 40. I do not feel I am not rational feeling this way as our special teams are never special.
