KF's defers and Riley gives us wind in 3rd qtr.

I hope KF learned from last week and he maybe did by putting the better of his two units, his defense on the field first.

Dolph said the hawks won the toss and deferred. They held Nebby on their opening drive and the bobbled punt snap hurt.

But over all the first half played out ok.

But just like last week when Purdue had the choice to start the 2nd half and took the ball and then KF also gave Purdue the wind this week the hawks took the ball at start of the 3rd qtr and Riley gave us the wind, dumb mistake. It maximizes the time Iowa has with the ball in the 3rd qtr.

And the outcome that last two weeks in the 3rd qtr with high winds is about the same that team gets quick scores and controls the second half.

Taking the wind in the 4th quarter is a form of "extending the game". More proof coaches put more value on having a chance at the end then they do making the right choice earlier to give you a better chance to win.

I still say the opening coin toss is what cost us the game against Purdue. I get ticked off every time I think about it.

KF did EXACT same thing vs NW and Purdue, with EXACT same results...we quickly gave up halftime lead and on our heels rest of game. Makes no sense. Glad it WASNT our choice this time, or I am sure KF would have.

I agree and have been talking about Iowa taking the ball to open the game against Purdue since it happened.

Yes, in 2002 or 2004 or 2009 maybe you take the ball first with those offenses. But really when your defense is your best unit by far and you win the coin flip defer. And with a stiff wind defer and take the wind after they choose the ball.

You can control the first qtr and should be able to get a good lead.

That set the tone for the whole game.

I wonder if the old QB Barta ever talks over the game time "decisions" as a mismanagement issue? Or maybe they compare investment information.. Just Kidding as I dont care if KF makes 4 million a year as that is the way of big money college fb. But I dont like incentives as high as a million dollars being tied to whether the players win a game.
