You know...I was lucky enough to be at Iowa at the time when Hayden had just taken over. My favorite memory was him telling a story about how the Iowa crowd was cheering when the team got a first down and Hayden laughing and saying..."can you imagine what they will do when we score".
I loved Barry Alvarez talking about Hayden on BTN the other night. He relayed a story of Hayden at his first B10 conference media day and him coming back to his staff and saying something like, "I just met all the B10 coaches for the first time...and I'll tell ya, it's not going to take us very long to turn this thing around." Vintage Hayden Fry...swagger and he could back it up.
I wanted to kind of look at his season records so I could remember some of those teams...and I noticed something...Hayden only won 10 games three times. That kind of shocked me and he never won 11. I know they play more games now...but Kirk Ferentz is going for his 6th 10 win season...and he's won 12, and 11 twice. I have such a fond memory of Hayden's teams, but maybe we are ok with the guy we have now for a few more years.
