KF says DJK gone for good.

No shocker there. Hopefully he can get his life straightened out, whether he makes it to the NFL or not.

Kirk's really taking a bold stance on this one, he's not messing around. You get caught running a drug house at Iowa, you're not going to play in the next game.

What do you want him to do? No need to pile on DJK, his career as a Hawk is finished. Not sure what else Ferentz could do.

Also, from everything that has been gathered and judging by the charges, DJK was not the one running the drug house. But dont let facts get in the way of your rant.

Yes, but again, what about Iowa's pro day? That is a much bigger issue for DJK than the Insight Bowl. Since DJK is suspended from the team, can he still train with the Iowa strength and conditioning guys and use the Iowa facilities? Can he participate at Iowa's pro day, or will he have to go work with an outside guy and bank it all on the combine? - That is if he gets an invite.

Pro day and continuing to work with S and C coaches was always optional. Some players did it and others did not. Doyle didnt charge but some went elsewhere to work with paid trainers.

I think that DJK will have to go elsewhere. His trainer can arrange workout or pro day. Others have done it. He should be more worried about his trial than pro days. That is what NFL people will be watching. According to one scout, he wasnt that highly rated to begin with- 4th-5th round so DJK has some work to do.

My guess is he was charged with that because his name was on the lease and that was his permanent residence. Would not be surprised to see that charge dropped in a plea deal.

You never answered my question though. What else do you want Ferentz to do?

Look, I'm not saying this isn't the right move to make, obviously this is what Ferentz had to do and since DJK is a fifth year senior, who is just days away from being done, there's not much he could do. But, it just seems that after his arrest that there's no doubt he would never play here again, and I know Ferentz was just answering a question, but the title of this thread is a little dramatic.

Ferentz's statement is loaded with vindictiveness with a nice touch of gloat; witness of the on going war with DJK and the build up of anger over it. Nice for the old coach to come out on top on this one. The arrest of DJK is the only way he could have.

What I want Ferentz to do is not abandon DJK right now. Yes, kick him off the team and don't let him participate in any football activities, but offer up anything you can on a personal level to help a former player out who may need help. DJK may refuse and that is his choice. However, KF has a chance to help a kid out right now that would extend far beyond football! And who knows, maybe this is going on, but I doubt it?

That's a pretty good point, I hadn't thought of that.

It's a stronger statement than was necessary (though I like it). Ferentz could have said he's suspended and left it at that. He said he'd never play at Iowa again. I took that to mean Ferentz is severing all ties with DJK and I'd be shocked if DJK is offered Iowa's facilities and coaches to prepare for the combine.

then he must be in the clear and this was all just a big misunderstanding, right?

some of you will seemingly find a way to excuse players for just about everything. it's pretty sad

I don't think that's what Section136 was saying at all and you diminish yourself by suggesting it.

As I've read the charges and looked at what evidence has been reported, the legal case against Derrell does not appear to be as big as it appeared on Tuesday. My guess (only) is that the two counts of unlawful possession of a prescription drug will be pleaded or negotiated down to one, the four counts of possession of a controlled substance will be negotiated down to one or two and the charge of keeping a drug house will be reduced to disorderly conduct or dropped totally. I base that on years of watching Iowa's courts in action.

That does not in any way ease the anger and sadness I have in knowing that a talented Hawkeye got mixed up with this type of activity, my hope that he can find a way to turn things around, or my anger over any poor light his arrest casts on the University of Iowa, the football program, the staff and the rest of the players.

Ferentz is totally correct to close the door on DJK, at least as far as the football program. Whatever personal help he may wish to provide as a former coach and friend is up to him. But I'm sure he feels ...
