This thread has potential -- the presser Kirk Ferentz would give if he had a presser tomorrow.

Keep going...

Good job, good effort; just came up a little short. Certainly have some things to clean up in the next two weeks.

I remember a Pitt-Maryland game in 1980, Pitt had a real good guard, real tough, had a great pull out block on a sweep with about 4:27 left in the fourth....sorry what was the question, did I say CJ would play? No I don't remember if I did.

Reporter: Kirk CJ Beathard has looked good when he's been in the game, what's the best thing he brings to the table?

Kirk: Jake Rudock is a top of the line guy. He took a organic chemistry test last week and I couldn't even read the words on the page. Jake works hard and were just glad he's on our team.

COACH FERENTZ: Just looking back, it was a great to play a road game out in the DC area. Results were not great obviously, but it is a great expansion area for our recruiting and for area players to see our product up close and personal. We really appreciate the fans that made the trip out east and we were well represented. Appreciate that.
Moving forward now. Jordan Canzeri got a bit dinged up again in the Maryland game. He would be a bit limited if we were to play this week. Got a handful of guys that are nicked up. Good thing we have the bye this week to get healed up and clean up some things over all.

Moving on to next Saturday, we have to go back to the film and look at the things we can fix execution wise from the Maryland game, learn from it, move on, and focus on Northwestern. They are very well coached and pose a challenge to us both offensively and defensively. Trevor Siemian is obviously a very talented quarterback for them and we are going to have respect his abilities out there. They have multiple receivers averaging over fifteen yards a reception. The Jackson guy is doing a good job for them on the ground running the ball.
I think the other thing I’d mention about them that is significant is their special teams. I think their place kicker is doing a great job kicking the ball for them. Just very sound overall and will be a challenge for us.

"our kids were a little tired from the trek out East, but overall we competed....CJB will have significant minutes in practice this week....injury updates.... Greg Davis & myself have a small brain cramp but other than that, we are looking good for the last push for the B1G championship.....I think we can get there....we just need a little luck or a small miracle...snort, snort.....transfers, yes we have a few to report.....my son, Brian has decided to coach at Illinois, so we'll see him in a couple of weeks, his Mom is not happy, but, hey that's football.....Any other questions/comments/coaching advice.....none, well, thanks, and have a great day...."

Q. Weisman is doing a good job on the ground and you get the big 3rd quarter out of him and gets the touchdown to pull you within 3. He gets a couple more carries and then you attack in the air almost exclusively in the 4th quarter. Any reason for that?

COACH FERENTZ: More of a gut thing there and situational . Obviously Mark did a great job for us in the Maryland game and is a very tough guy and we admire his toughness. Nice to see the 30 yard plus run and he was due for one of those. I'm sure he will have more of those in the right spots. He is a tough runner and we would not ask any less of him. We got into situation there where we were playing catch up and not trying to be to predictable. We have to get him more carries though, but you have to pick your spots. Tough runner.

So Coach, do you teach your quarter backs to spike the ball?

How often do you practice it?

You got away from running the ball there..... (this is probably an exact questions )

Holy smokes. We dont need KF. This is spot on. KF should visit this site and ask you guys to do the presser.

My turn:

Why Didn't CJB see any time?

KF: When I was 16, we had a neighbor that could just chuck a rock, then in 2002 we went tot he Orange bowl and had a kickoff returned for a touch down. First play of the game. That kick off return was a solid effort by our special teams. It really got the fan base fired up. Like my grill last Sunday. I have the top of the line grill. It almost works without me. I really appreciate the fact that it's Tuesday. Say, does Taco John's do Taco Tuesday anymore?

Honestly, I haven't listened to any of his press conferences since about 2010.

I truly don't want to be a Negative Nelly, but there is absolutely no substance there.

"Well, to answer the spiking issue, we start by doing some stretching exercises....GD has the 2nd/3rd team guys do some medicine ball throws to each other, Jake has taken it upon himself to lead a spiritual meditation that I truly believe has done some good for the younger guys, you know, the future of Iowa football, or some other team they might transfer to, but we're gettin there.....we have had to wipe the slate clean, start over.....Brian has run down to the Piggly Wiggly for some ice cream drumsticks, God, I just love that crunchy coating....reminds me of my childhood back East....I'm sorry, what was you're question again? Oh, we're out of time? I'm thinkin about givin the boys the day off tomorrow...you know, reflect on what it means to be part of a great tradition here at Iowa....."

Q. You didn't have a pass to a wide receiver until the 3rd quarter. Was there any specific reason for this? Something they were doing different defensively out there? From your vantage point, was the deep ball there for Jake and the receivers to exploit?

COACH FERENTZ: Ya I didn't realize that until someone told me that. Yes, we aren't proud of that is for sure. Something we would like to be more productive in. Certainly a lot of credit goes to them. There were a number of factors. Pretty windy and we wanted to minimize mistakes. I thought Jake did fine going through his progressions. Would like to be a bit sharper, certainly like to have back the pick 6.

Q. The Pick 6.....

COACH FERENTZ: Unfortunate. Kind of hung up there and Likely made a good jump on it. Credit goes to him. I know Jake would like to have that one back. It is just one of those things that happen in football looking to make a play. That is what I like about Jake and the chances he takes out there for our football team. Just one of those we would like to get back.

Q: [inaudible]

COACH FERENTZ: I think everyone has a chance to play. Both guys are competing, which is a good thing. Certainly, we needed to score more points, obviously. And that's what were working on this week. I think you have to go back and look at a guy like Sam Brownlee. We had some injuries that year, and he got his chance obviously. Both guys are giving good effort.

Q: How was Maryland able to run the ball so well?

COACH FERENTZ: Well first off, hats off to Maryland for executing well. They really blocked well on a couple of those long plays. Certianly we need to tackle better. We had a couple bad angles, and a couple missed assignements. Obviously, we have to get better.

Q: Did you consider going to CJ at any point in the game?

COACH FERRENTZ: It didn't cross my mind. I mean, both guys are good quarterbacks and I am comfortable with either one. The thing with Jake is that he's a med student. He's studying Organic Chemistry if that tells you anything. And CJ is also competing. CJ gives us a bit of a different look. But Jake was our quarterback and he showed, I think, that when we were able to get something going in the 4th quarter. Obviously, we have to score more points.
