KC Area WR Desmond Hutson Commits to Hawkeyes

This is a good get, i believe. 6'4" and looks long. high points well and doesn't appear afraid of catching in traffic. didn't see a whole lot of blocking highlights, but what can you do? hopefully, kirk has a secret video of only blocking highlights.

That's the big thing nowadays. If you can't outrun the DB you gotta be bigger and be able to fight for the ball. I like going after some of the longer bigger guys. He sounds like a good fit to me

I'm not sure how much track he runs, but he ran a 12.40 100m this past April according to this link. :eek:o_O

With all due respect (to him, not you cause I suspect sarcasm) those are not impressive track times, nor is his 200m, 400m or high jump. At 6'4" he should be able to high jump 5'0 without a running start. I know seventh graders who can go 5'2" or higher.

How you feel if I told you that a player who can boast the following is joining Iowa next year as a PWO?

11.25 100m (sectional heat, false started in finals and was ineligible for state. Max Cooper ran a 11.41 at state)

22.63 in the 200m (state champion)

21'8" long jump (state champion)

Former top ten ranked bull rider in middle school.

Kordell Stillmunkes is not participating in track his senior year for precautionary reasons after breaking his foot in football. And I see no scenario where he doesn't redshirt his first year. But he's certainly a Ferentz prototype in the Sean Considine, Brandon Snyder, Riley McCarron mold. And anyone who can ride a bull is tough enough for me. For the record, he's about 5'10" 190 range.

I hope he pans out, and, not trying to be a "Debbie Downer" here, but his tape is just meh to me.

I think the WR recruiting has improved over the past couple of cycles, but, I have to admit, I sometimes scratch my head trying to figure out what traits Iowa emphasizes.

Yes, he has length, but he lacks one of the most important traits to look for in a WR - suddenness, and, there's only so much you can do to improve that. High-pointing skills or not, I see him struggling mightily against B1G competition.

Maurice Massey recently decommitted from ISU. We should be giving him - along with David Bell - the all-out press. Those guys have the skill set you like to see at this level.

I'll add some more:

Blair Brooks: 23.4 200m, 22-11 LH, 6-08 HJ
Riley Moss: 13.85 110H (4th in nation), 11.29 100m

Is it true that his only offers are Iowa & S Dakota St?

Glass-half-full: Antonio Brown had 0 offers out of HS, and has been dominating the NFL for years.

Glass-half-empty: Iowa hasn't exactly been pumping out "Antonio Browns" at a high rate. For all their success in making lowly-rated recruits NFL players at some positions (OL, TE, DL, LB, DB), they have not done that in the least with offensive skill positions. I am still holding out hope that we are juuuuuuust about to turn the corner ;)

Jerry Rice in his prime wouldn't do jack at Iowa with the Royal Ferentz family in charge.

What I like about this kid is he catches the ball. I mean he caught a lot of less than accurate passes on that video.

He doesn't need to be ISM fast. One of Iowa's most productive all time receivers was a big, relatively slow kid that caught everything. Marvin did it by running good routes, catching everything, and being a smooth runner. He was not a burner by any means, but he came out of the catches running full steam ahead.

Do we want all.of our receivers to be the David Bells of the world - well yes. But they don't have to be in order to succeed and be productive.

with his frame are we looking at a long term WR prospect or does he make the move to TE after gaining some muscle? Could be a nice red zone threat don't need break away speed when you are inside the 10 yd line

Anybody with the name Kordell Stillmunkes has my vote. That kind of name has to be destined for glory.

He dates my niece, which is reason enough to be destined for glory:p

Cautionary tale, however. I never said he would be Tim Dwight 2.0. if he was he wouldn't have been a preferred walk on. I only said he was fast and tough. Big Ten competition is a slight upgrade from Fennimore and Boscobel. He does remind me, however of Sean Considine or Riley McCarron who I believe started their Iowa careers as walk ons.
