I came away from the video clips very impressed. I know they were highlights. And I am very aware it is the PTL. However, I am now very excited about Olaseni. He looks to me he is going to have the potential to be a excellent post defender. He is long, quick, good ups, and loves to block shots. We have sorely missed someone who can consistently alter shots on the defensive end. I have noticed he has three straight games in the double figures with a good shooting percentage (I still know it is ptl). However he has a pretty nice shot, with good release and follow through. He looks to be well ahead of Archie. I thought Gabe may redshirt, now i'm not so sure. I am very glad he is playing with Bryce.
Josh looks to be a very good passer, smart basketball player and overall good player. Although he may also have limited minutes this year, his role will also make us stronger.
I have not seen video of Aaron, however I think the stats he is putting up while playing with Iowa's two stars is a very good sign we can expect good things out of him.
Brommer's jump hook was looking much smoother. Looks bigger and stronger. That may be lack of cardio too i guess. However, I think he will stay in games longer and have a decent year. I don't think 10 and 7 are out of line for him this year. We have a better idea of what to expect out of him coming into this year. I'm not reading that he is a waste anymore. So I think everyone knows he will have a decent year if he stays healthy.
Looks like we will finally have some depth at the 3, 4, 5 spots. I see Matt having a all conference type season because he will be able to play his natural position more. Matt has had to spend a lot of minutes in his career playing a little out of position and defending people bigger than him. Out of necessity of course. Kudos to you Matt for sticking it out.
May is going to be much more consistent. Two years in a row we have beat him up in the non conference out of need for someone to score and defend the other teams most athletic player. I think we see Marble take over that defender role from him. I dont see us needing his scoring to win in non conference this year. Matt's thumb was hurt last year, Basabe was inconsistent early and Marble was not ready athletically. May will have a more consistant season. You may not see the 30 point performances early. However, I don't think we will see the drop off we saw the last two years after mid January. He'll be much fresher for big Ten.
We know what we are getting from Basabe. Although I think he will have more space this year too.
We also know what we are getting from Cartwright.
I think Marble will be a force in the future. 6-7, good handles, mid range jumper looked better on highlights, Can play 3-4 positions for us. I think he is our biggest X factor. I look for him to explode in the future. Maybe not this season. But he will have some huge games for us.
Overall I am still super excited about next season. I think we improve at every position. I don't think there is another team out there that can say they potentially will improve at all 5 spots. We are much more athletic than last year. Most importantly we are in the second year of system. From what I have read Frans offense is extremely complex. So I think pieces are in place for a great season. Go Hawks. PLEASE STUDY HARD, NO MORE TRANFERS, STAY HEALTHY. We have had more than our share of hard luck. Time to pass on that torch. Sorry this was long, killing time.
