and be done with this whole thing.
4 of the 5 teams are part of the AAU. 4 of the 5 teams will bring some added value to the conference. Mizzou shores up the state of MO, Nebraska shores up the entire state of NE and the 3 TX programs are going to have to be a package deal or none of them will come. By adding those 3 TX schools you gain the entire state of TX for an audience plus the #1 cash flow program in the country. A&M and Tech are no worse than NW, Iowa, Minny, Wisky, MSU, Illinois, IU, Purdue athletically and only Tech is subpar academically.
The conference sprouts to 16 teams immediately. You then have an Eastern Mississippi conference and a Western Mississippi conference:
Western: Nebraska, Iowa, Minny, Tech, A&M, TX, Missouri and throw NW or Illinois in there in order to get to 8 teams on that side even though they aren't technically West of the Mississippi.
Eastern: Wisky, Illinois (or NW), Purdue, IU, Michigan, MSU, PSU, fOSU
You get great balance from an athletic standpoint as Western has Neb and TX as your anchors in football (I love Iowa but we aren't exactly a national power). In the East you get PSU, Michigan and fOSU as your football anchors - certainly Michigan is down right now but they are a national presence. I think the Eastern conference could be considered stronger overall but not exponentially.
In football you then play all 7 of your division rivals and 1 game against the other division with this game rotating annually. So basically you will get a TX / OSU game every 7 years. I could also see the conference split in to 4 divisions with the 3 games played in division and 4 games played outside of your division annually. This would probably give you a better mix throughout the years.
In hoops you play all 15 teams with 3 teams being played as a home/home series to get to 18 conference games. Those 3 teams would rotate every year so that you aren't playing the same 3 teams twice every year.
My point in all of this is to ADD the TX programs. I just don't see what the Big10 would be gaining by adding NE and MO outside of simple geography. The TX programs will bring more households.
