Juan Harris position

I saw a thing no espn.com where they were talking about Iowa's 2016 season and how the 2015 success is helping recruiting. They had a few top commits on the screen and had Harris listed as the #24 offensive guard in the nation. I had never seen him listed on offense, so I looked around. Rivals and Scout have him at DT and 247 have him at DT/OT. I had never thought of him on offense, but I think he may potentially end up being a good guard on top of being a 2-gap guy on defense (but not both, obviously). Just wondered what people's thoughts were on the possibility of having him on offense.

"This just in, ESPN sucks"

I could see putting him in on the goal line on O for sure... I doubt he'll have the lungs to play a lot of snaps on just one side of the ball let alone playing significantly both ways. I think he'll be a 2 down DT come off on 3rd down passing situations.. I hope I'm wrong and he can play a lot it just seems like bigger guys like him have a tough time with that.

I attended one of his games this past season and he played some O-Line. His combination of size athleticism plays on either side of the ball.

I'll see him again at The Opening Chicago regional on May 14.

He was dominant in some camps at DT and that's what we recruited him at I'm pretty sure. Freak speed for his size.

He has to get his weight down. If he is anywhere near the 395 lbs people have reported he needs to get down to 300 lb range.

Agreed. I'm sure he's never been in a nutrition/weight training program like he's about to undertake with Doyle. Hopefully he'll buy into the program 100%. If he does, I would think the results will be dramatic. If he has those skills in spite of all his extra weight, imagine what he can be without it.

Doesn't Doyle design a workout/nutrition program for a player as soon as he commits? If so, Harris should have been on Doyles plan for over a year now.

Could be... not sure. Even so, I can't imagine them following the program like they will when they get on campus.

Harris is a nose tackle all the way. And yes ESPN's recruiting is laughable. The only people who use ESPN are clown fans trying to bash our recruiting.

I think he's destined for the defensive side of the ball. Iowa has some nice young talent on the O-line. With Jaleel graduating this coming spring D tackle will be a position of need. If he pans out and Iowa can grab a few more plugs, the D-line is going to be very solid. Gholston, Lattimore and AJ with a jr/sr Hesse, Nelson and Nelson. Well, the future looks good.

Since Iowa doesn't play a nose tackle, you mean DT. In any case, if he doesn't drop about 50lbs., his position at Iowa will be bench warmer and maybe short yardage specialist only.

Yikes man, 395 and he should be allowed on the field for August practices. Seriously, that would be dangerous for him.

Yeah it's within a days drive of where he lives. I don't take much from it other then he's just going to camps and working on football drills. Taking in some different coaching that they receive. If he was going to a Bama camp and was flying 1000 miles or more to get to one then that'd might raise some eye brows. But to go to neighboring camps isn't a big deal most all those kids are going to multiple camps close to where they live.

Did he come to the camp in Iowa City on Sunday? Hmmm.
