Jordan Bernstein

Does anybody know why he doesn't play? Is he in the doghouse or what? He was so highly recruited and it seems like we aren't getting anything out of him.

Who is he going to replace?

Doesn't he play on special teams?

He is a player that has had several injuries, I believe.

Lowe might be a good corner in the future but he struggled this year. He got beat deep on several plays this year. Bernstein was going be a starter a few years ago before he got hurt.

My guess to why he doesn't play much is that the guys at his position are better than him.

He was a pretty good recruit so it is disappointing to not see him on the field often but DBs are hard to judge coming in from high school.

i think the answer is he is a safety and not many guys are going to beat out the two starting safties on the team. Was he playing special teams this year? If not, must be some injuries going on. I can't honestly remember him on kickoff coverage.

It's a combination of having Sash/Greenwood at safety (Bernstine's natural position), and untimely injuries.

Everything posted on Bernstine so far is pretty accurate. Highly recruited, great athlete, came in as a 4 star. He hasn't been able to find the field because of Sash/Greenwood, and in 2008/2009/2010 he was listed as backup corner because it was the place he was most likely to see the field. In 2009 he missed the whole season due to an ankle injury and was red shirted. In 2010 he couldnt beat out Prater/Hyde. It probably has not helped his cause that he and Jewel were arrested in 6/2010 for public intox just before going into summer practices. he will have a chance to compete next year for the vacancy left by Greenwood. Hopefully he can make a positive impact next year, he has waited a long time.

This. There were rumors that he was practicing with the offense a few weeks back as a slot receiver but that was never confirmed or anything. I feel like the coaches want to get him onto the field but there's just no room. He apparently doesn't have the mobility to play CB effectively and our safeties are good as is. Hopefully they find a space for him somewhere for next year.

There was a good writeup on him on BHGP before the season began. Kinda a bummer when you hear about all the things that have happened with him. The thing concluded with the line "It's not that Jordan Bernstine's time hasn't come yet, it's that Jordan Bernstine's time was supposed to start 2 years ago."

All pretty much correct, I think Jon has mentioned a few times he thinks Jordan has lost some confidence!

I saw today that Tanner Miller was on the 2-deep behind Greenwood. What did you guys think of Miller this year? He seemed to be one of the better special teams players. I like his game. I was surprised to see him on the 2 deep. Maybe next year it will be Sash/Miller back there instead of what I expected, Sash/Bernstine.

bernstein was a RB also in HS. maybe he could get some time in for the bowl game...
i know, super long shot.

He always seems to be ready to go though. He's contantly warming up on the sidelines. Sometimes he has a helmet on when no one else does. He always seems to be behind Ferentz on the sidelines.

Thats a polite way of saying that some times when you have sustained a few significant injuries, some people become a little "gun shy".

Maybe not that long of a shot. He was a RB in HS and was a pretty good one. It's possible that if we whiff on basically all of our RB recruits this year, they'll switch him in the spring. He's got a bunch of talent and I don't see the coaches letting that go to waste for his entire career.

Norm Parker said last year in the Orange bowl practices he thought Jordan had lost a step or two from the ankle injury.

That severe fracture last year may (I say may) have permanently affected his mobility and speed. He just may not be the same physically.

Is there some inside joke I'm not getting that people can't spell his last name right?

Probably has to do with the fact that it is a very unusual spelling of that particular name.
