You are on record as being vehemently opposed to Ben Jacobson being the next Iowa basketball coach. One of your main reasons is because Iowa has hired two straight mid-major flavors of March Madness and they have not worked out very well. Iowa has gone progressively downhill with each one. While, I do not agree with you, I completely understand your position. It is logical and rational based on the events and your experience.

However, for very much the same reasons you should be vehemently opposed to Steve Forbes being the next coach at Iowa. Iowa's experience with hiring a coach who campaigned for a job is not very good. However, you are not old enough to remember. An endorsement by Pearl means nothing to me. The last coach who campaigned for the job was endorsed by an Iowa legend and was a partner of Howard Cosell's on MNF football at the time.

We all have our own biases and prejudices based on our life experiences. Personally, I prefer Jacobson to Forbes because Iowa has had better success hiring natives of North Dakota than hiring coaches who campaigned for the job.

Neither one of us is right or wrong! Our opinions are different because of our experiences in life.

Yes. Everyone has their own opinions for various reasons. Does that mean Barta is going to hire someone based on his opinion of him and the fact he was born in the same town as Lute Olson rather than a body of work that substantiates the possibility of future success at Iowa?

Not sure why Jon's or anyone else's opinion matters that much to you. None of us pick the next coach, we just get to talk it up in the agonizing meantime.

FWIW, the idea that a mid major can't recruit at Iowa is nonsense.

Alford had the number one recruiting class in the country in his first full class.

He just couldn't coach.

We need to hire the best COACH we possibly can, and make sure that either he is a rockstar recruiter or that he hires at least one for the staff.

You seem like my kind of guy. We're out of our minds. Who are you talking about columbushawk? I'm too young to understand.

Or actually get them on campus and in classes, but I see your point.

well yeah Alford had basically every problem under the son, but recruiting wasn't one of them. Nor was getting a fan base pumped (at least before everyone hated him.)

TooLegit,

It was Bob Commings in football who was endorsed by Alex Karras and yes Alex Karras was on MNF with Howard Cosell.

Bob Commings also was endorsed by Forest Evashevski and a bunch of other Iowa players.

It turned out that Commings was a good recruiter but not a great coach or great motivator.

Hayden Fry won a Rose Bowl with a bunch of players recruited by Bob Commings!!!

Jacobson's kids play extremely hard for him and appear to enjoy playing for him. I think he would be an excellent coach at Iowa.

It will be interesting to see what Barta does, or can do.

Fry didn't win a Rose Bowl

I don't think I am vehemently opposed to Jake. I would just rather see Iowa move in a different direction. Vehement is a strong word, and I dont think it applies.

From the outset with all of this, I made it clear that my opinions would be based on my own bias for what I think the job requires RIGHT NOW. and I have placed a great deal on recruiting ties and history of recruiting at the high major level. Jake doesnt have that. It's just my opinion
