Thanks for sharing that link. I didn’t know Jon was doing podcast still. Can the link be used to continue to follow future podcast.
I will say that I agree with Jon on his assessment of how serious it is for a sports writer to challenge an established coaching staff. Gotta give Rob a lot of credit on some of his articles. I am sure some of them didn’t go over real well at Fort Kinnick.
I’ve made decisions in my personal life that cost me everything on a personal level having to do with religion. That decision cost me my relationship with my parents, four brothers, two sisters, girlfriend, childhood best friends, uncles, aunts, and cousins. So yeah I know what that’s about. How does that rank up against a job somewhere? I get it. It’s not easy to stand up for what you believes in when the pressure is really on. I get it.
I am a gluten for punishment I guess. My job also requires me to enforce regulations against billionaire corporations. One screw up and I and my 28 year career are toast. I may retire in January because the stress is immense and the risk are too high at this point. Yeah Jon, I get it.
I know most are followers and can sit in their easy chairs and critic others from the cheap seats. I get that too. That’s not me.
Honestly, I always understood the risk the sportswriters and journalist take when ever they challenge the establishment. I really can’t fault them as their carers are on the line. I understand. Mortgages don’t just disappear, children don’t just stop eating, utility bills, car payments, medical bills, I know I’ve challenged them on these forums. I think Rob has showed more courage than most. Kudos to him. I know the pain and consequences that comes from standing up and doing what you feel is right in your heart. It’s not easy.
I also agree with Jon’s comments about Spencer. The guy has shown great courage in the face of adversity. Getting clobbered over and over again by three hundred pound defensive linemen, then getting up and doing it again. It’s not his fault the line is so inadequate. I’ve been too critical of him. It’s easy to pick on him when the real problem lies some where else. I have been openly critical toward the coaching staff for several years because of the offensive woes of the program.
In a perfect world, Kirk would step down, Bobby would come out of retirement, leave Parker as defensive coordinator, leave our special teams coaches intact and then bring in the best offensive coordinator that he knows. Stick around for about six or seven years and then pass the torch to someone he recommends.
We can dream right?
