If memory serves me correctly about a week or so ago you either posted an article or discussed in a post the main items the new head coach at Iowa needed in order to be successful.

As I read your "letter to Garry Barta" article, well written as usual, you speak once again of what he needs to be looking for in a new HC.

As I read your comments, I am really struggling to see where Steve Forbes doesn't fit almost every one of your points, especially where it comes to recruiting PLAYERS to Iowa. Now I know there are others that could also get the job done, with his passion for the position and his connections to the University, I am struggling to see how he isn't on Gary's supposed "A" list. Do you believe he is on that list or is Gary more focused on "experienced" head coaches, which if the case, will eventually lead us to anotherr "mid-major" hire?

I dont think Forbes is the only guy out there by a long shot...and I am warming up to the thought of Gregory.

I just really want to hammer home what I think the next coach is going to need to be successful....with one caveat: If he doesnt have a strong recruiting background, he needs to have one or two staff members that do.

I'm sorry, I just can't "warm up" to a coach who just went 8-8 in the Atlantic 10. He may be coaching in the NIT right now, but remeber Penn State won that tourney last year and look how they did this year.

I think Forbes is a recruiter. I am sure he can x and o. I do however believe that Barta is making a signature hire here. Without butts in the seats at Carver he is not looking good. I know Forbes would put butts in the seat. I do think he is actively searching for an experienced head coach who has been there and done that. Someone who can recruit anywhere. IF that guy isn't available is going to be the only chance Forbes has. That is just my opinion though.

I dont disagree...I have said the same from the get go related to Forbes...that he was Barta's backburner candidate, knowing he would be there through the end.

Thanks.

I have to agree with the Forbes being there at the end, I just think if he is the right guy with the right credentials and can bring in the players Iowa needs to be successful the hire would make sense. The other side is maybe he is still toward the top of the list and Barta is investigating other options while Tennessee finishes up their NCAA run.

If he has the credentials and Iowa is his "dream job", the longevity he would bring to the table has to be considered over someone that will use Iowa as a stepping stone.

Of course, my opinion and 25 cents might get you a cup of coffee at Bill Krause's Kum & Go down the street. Unless Bill needs to raise the price to cover his portion of the next B-Ball coaches salary. LOL
