Jok driving to the basket

Is not a thing of grace... seriously he had the one layup he tossed up behind his head but when he drives to the basket the last several times... its been a charge or turnover almost every time.

Shoot the 3 or mid range please...

He drove 4 times tonight.. 2 were turnovers 1 was a charge .

White can't get a good drive going into the paint. Usually stops at 12 feet and backs out or passes the ball.

And almost every time he passed up a 3 to drive.

Jok is never going to be an at the rim player, he needs to realize what he's good at.

It was pointed out to me tonight that he only drives left. He's gonna be easy to defend if he can't change that....

Remember when everyone said exactly this about Gatens as a sophomore? Jok may not be a strong at the rim player right now, but that doesn't mean he won't ever develop that part of his game.

Gatens never became a good driver.

At best he became a well below average at the rim player. People ***** about Gessel getting blocked, Gatens got blocked more than any player I've ever seen.

He became effective when he started knocking down threes.

I couldn't figure out how they never realized that our guys were being baited into a baseline drive, trap, dish, and steal. How many times did we throw the ball away doing the exact same thing?

Jok is young and just starting to come into his own. I'm with T on this one. He's got a couple years and will get much better.

Jok's development reminds me so much of Marble. So many doubted that Marble had a chance to make it in the league. I think Jok has the talent. The difference being that Marble had to improve his outside shooting. I think Jok has the outside stroke but needs to work on his handles and driving ability.

He's not polished to lets be clear...Minnesota is probably the toughest team to drive on in the B1G. Their hands are amazingly accurate and I'll give them credit, they played pretty clean for how often they were swiping at the ball.

If Jok drives on even a good but normal B1G defense, he'd have more success. I like that he's adding it to his game, because Iowa badly needs it. Just give him some time.

I feel the exact same about Uhl and taking jump shots, btw. Think Uhl is a year away from being a consistent contributor, but I'm optimistic the light will fully go on by next February because he's got athleticism.

I have no problem with Jok driving, especially when no one else on the team was doing anything. It's another sign that he's feeling more comfortable out there. He's adjusted the B10 game speed this point, hitting 41% from 3 in conference play.

I have a huge problem with him passing up threes to put it on the floor. You don't pass up what you're good at to do something your not good at.

Matt begs to differ (starts at the 0:36 mark):

Definitely unpolished, definitely made some mistakes, definitely not ready to say he won't develop that part of his game.

Case in point, there was one drive where he tried to make dump-off pass to Gabe (?) and it predictably ended in a turnover, but if he just would have went up with it, he likely would have had an easy bucket or at least a foul (maybe both). With experience he will likely get better at those split second decisions.

Jok will be better than fine. He's the best shooter on team. Best passer on team. And will become better than avg defender. No need for him to be A+ in every category. People will be calling him ball-hog marble.
