Iowa players continue to get recognition for these type of awards and that’s a testament to them and the coaching staff as difficult as some would like to hear..

Some influence he has huh? I emailed the head of the awards saying what a tragedy that the "best" linebacker isnt even a finalists. His comment was JJ missed a game which hurt him and stats arent the only factor the committee looks at. I laughed my ass off when I sent him the criteria from their own website....yeah my apologies, the finalists definitely have those traits over JJ. In case you were wondering;
5 main criteria:
1. The Butkus Award sets out to recognize those qualities that defined Dick’s career, heavily factoring the following five traits: toughness (playing through pain with a warrior mentality), on-field leadership (intimidating presence and respected tone-setter), competitiveness (passion, intensity and relentless effort), football character (work ethic, drive and determination) and linebacking skills (instincts, tackling, striking, balance, knee bend, shedding, cover skills, blitzing).

I kind of find that statement hard to believe and my first thought was to call you a moron...but I'll refrain. So without scheme, strategy, and getting 10 other guys to do their job, especially the four guys in front of him...coaching isn't important and the athlete still is successful. After all, he's an athlete. Ok...good point.
