Jet sweep fake

On the OnIowa podcast, they said Iowa ran the 21 alignment 14 times. They faked the jet sweep three times, running 3 zone plays for 32 yards. The other 11 plays resulted in 17 yards.

Jet sweep good. More Parker good.

Quit running it with MW at tailback. It had some success but because of his lack of speed, a potential huge play turned into a 9 yard run.

Any kind of counter-play action is good for this offense.

And any run play that gets 9 yards is good.

Now that we are 5 games in and have established tendencies for the opposition, this is the time to break out the counters, the double move on the WR short out pattern (make it an out and up), the QB keepers on zone reads, etc.

Iowa is lacking a big time RB. I think that is the main problem with the running game. I agree, that should be a TD instead of 9 yards.

We definitely need to keep Parker involved. Give him one or two jet sweep carries per game and take advantage of that fake.

Any kind of play action desperately needed.

Was just watching Sportscenter while eating lunch and they were breaking down last night's KC-NE game. Alex Smith was 10-11 for 120 and a TD off of play action last night. Yeah, it's the pros, but everybody familiar with the program knows the offense needs play action to be successful. Well, almost everyone anyway.

I agree 9 yards is good, and we'd gladly take it every play :)

But we don't have many opportunities to run these type of plays, so when they do catch an opponent off balance, we need the play to generate more than 9 yards. While we lack extreme speed at the RB position, I just think having someone other than a fullback taking these type of plays is ideal.

I do think Canzeri received a jet sweep fake as well and he was literally an arm grab away from breaking it. He still made a nice gain of about 15 yards.

but its' about putting in the right personal for these schemes.

Canzeri is still dinged up, maybe the two byes will get him healthy for our November run to glory.

CJB/Canzeri/Parker/Tevaun/Powell/Willies would be grand...

I also saw a play where the great canzeri cut right into a db and would of had a huge play, maybe even a touch down if he stays straight or cuts the other direction. And in terms of the bear Jews nine yard run, if that was canzeri everyone would be pointing to that as why he should get more carries if not for our dumb coaches. When mw makes the run it's why didn't he get more. So for me, much less canzeri and more Jew hammer.

This. Counter plays really killed Purdue...most of our good runs resulted from them. On top of breaking tendencies, counter's force the D to either

1. Pay for over-pursuing or
2. Not over pursue, which allows for the outside zone to work a bit better (though in theory, the cut-back off of the stretch play should also punish over-pursuit...)

Weisman broke a tackle at about 3 yards where the LB was squared up for the tackle. Another rb might have been tackled there but Weisman got 5 or 6 more yards. Nobody wants to talk about that though. Also, 2013 was the 4th best rushing year for a KF team (out of 16 years) and Weisman was a big part of that.

Not only his lack of speed, but also ack of lateral cutting ability. On that one play, it would have been a TD if they had a back in there that could avoid running into his own blocker and run into that ten-yard-wide hole. The middle of the field beyond that spot was wide open, but the delay of bouncing off the blocker let the defensive backfield close the gap.

Serious? Weisman should have cutback about 3 steps before that into the 10 foot gap. That D Tackle shouldnt have been near the play had he cut decisively and correctly. Having some vision alone, should have been a 20 yard gain even with Weisman's speed.

It was a LB, not a DT. Weisman broke the tackle and whether he should have gotten more than 9 yards is just speculation. What's amazing is the DE took himself voluntarily completely out of the play and went after CJ (must have been thinking playaction). Maybe Weisman was in shock.

Bottom line, it's a really nice play that left the Purdue DE totally confused. I think part of that was set up by prior playaction plays to. The DE watched Parker, and that froze him a split second and then he went after CJ and Weisman ran right by him. He never made a step towards Weisman until he was gone.
