Jay Norvell

It will be interesting to watch how he does with the Wolfpack. If he's successful, Nevada would be a good stepping stone to a bigger program, if you get my drift.

I remember him being linked to every B12 opening in the last ten years. This feels like a step down.

Naw. Jay's great, but getting his first head coaching gig at 53... not gonna be Iowa's HC

Iowa isn't exactly a blue blood. We have no idea where this program will be 5, 10 years down the road. He could be 60 and be the best guy available.

TRJ, I like you man... but not a chance. IOWA is a good job. No disrespect to Norvell, but we'll draw better candidates.

Given Iowa's affinity for 20 year plus head coaches and the stability they bring, doubtful that they would give a someone a job at anything approaching 60 years old.

Odds of it happening are remote and if it does happen it means that Iowa is in a very bad spot. Lets say Norvell kills it at Nevada and Iowa hits a 5 year rough patch then he becomes the best guy available. A Jerry Kill like hire. I know I am reaching with all this.;)

I know he is a nice guy and he is popular with a diverse set of fanbases from his various stops as an assistant, but there is nothing to suggest he is exceptional and there has to be a reason it has taken this long for him to get a head job and have it be in Reno. He could have had a second tier power five school type of job at some point, and every other guy in that photo from 1985 is closer to retirement than anything else.
